The problem sensor on our YAMAHA XLT 1200 jet ski has been going off if we start to go fast... Or ride for more than 5-10 minutes... Why is this?

You may have something clogged in a water passage but more than likley u have a bad sensor the sensor is located on the main exhuast if you go on the right side of the ski and look in the engine compartment it will be located at 9 oclock u will see it sticking out of the exhuast with one wire comming out after u run the ski and the buzzer goes off pull the seat and see if the engine is really hot if u can not touch it will be hot but it has to be very hot for the sensor to pick it up if u can touch the motor and exhuast it is a bad sensor

The reason it is going off is because the cat. converter has broken loose in the exhaust and is blocking exaust flow causing heat to build up . you have to remove this section of the exaust and remove it. you then have to install a restrictor plate to compensate for the needed back pressure. that is what happened to mine.

I have a 2003 yamaha 800 xlt and when i put the hot post on tha batt its starts it stuck to crank i cant keep it on or it will stay starting. is it a bad relay

  • ssmithlprt Jun 27, 2011

It is possibly a stuck starter relay sometimes the contacts in the solenoid arc and electrically weld themselves together, another possibility is the contacts in the start button are touching inside the switch. to isolate this you have to disconnect the start wire at the solenoid, and see if it still cranks when you connect the battery.
