Chevy low oil pressurethe oil pressure light keeps coming on then going off has plenty of oil

Maybe you have a faulty oil pressure switch which just stops working sometimes

check your oil pressure switch

well after you turn it off unscrew the oil cap and look to see if the lifters are freshly wet plus my 96 850 turbo burns oil like crazy, i check it every saturday and always need to add at least half quart depending on how much i drove you would be surprised. so it might be low its not a bad thing for them to burn oil as long as you keep it full, i use valvoline high milege 10-30 oil all year. if its full and oiled then it may be a faulty reading

you need to do the fallowing :
- make sure that you donr have a n oild leak some where look under the car
- u have a missfire in cylinder number 5 ( it colde be the spark plug or the coil )
if you wana go cheep , start by buying 1 spark plug and change it in number 5 if fix the problem ok if not , get the coil and change it

Not only does the Oil light come on when it is low, it will also come on when the PRESSURE IS LOW or if the Pressure Sending Unit has gone bad or is DIRTY.

a. If you keep driving it, you can blow the motor if it is low oil pressure.
b. If it is low pressure, it could be due to blockage of passages or worn parts.
c. You can add Diesel Fuel (1.3 quarts to your Oil, do not drive it but let it idle for 15 mins... Drain the Oil and add a thicker oil (20w-50) and see if the light goes out.
d. Put a Gauge on the Engine and check the Oil Pressure. If it is low, and the oil increase to 20W-50 or 40 weight does not help... you are looking at pulling the engine.
e. If the Pressure is normal, I would replace the Oil Pressure Sending unit.

The oil light is warning the driver the engine has no oil pressure. That could be due to the engine oil level being low, or because of a problem with the oil pump.
is it possible you unplugged or damaged the oil pressure switch on the engine ?

It could be the low oil pressure warning light. That light looks like an oil can with one drip of oil on the tip.
If that is the light it is telling you the oil pressure in the engine is low.
You might want to check with a dealer to make sure if you don't have an owners manual.

If the valve lifters are quiet you most likely have oil pressure even with gauge showing "0".Sounds like the oil pressure switch going bad.I would try that first.
