Spacebar not responding on Toshiba laptop Satellite

Been very happy with laptop for several years but today the spacebar has decided to stop responding. Have I accidently locked the spacebar? Can you lock the spacebar? If so, how do I unlock it?

What else would be the cause of this?

thank you
Cara

Since the spacebar is the most used key on the keyboard, it is likely a hardware failure of the spacebar itself. Replacement keyboards can be found on EBay and normally run about $20

The spacebar on my laptop doesn't always leave spaces between words, what is wrong with it?

Inside the key, there is a metal bar the makes the spacebar key depress from anywhere you press it. Either this bar as unclipped from its hinges or they have broken.

Toshiba Satellite.C655.enable.space.bar

Hook a external keyboard, if okay! problem with the laptop keyboard. Try a system restore and bring the computer back to a earlier time before this happened, just might work. The keyboard can be disabled from the bios setting I don't see how it can be done any other way.

Cursor jumps all over the place! Cursor "arrow" shifts to cursor "four-arrrow" then decides to change zoom level all on its own. Cursor disappears, is nowhere on the screen then...

The Touchpad is the cause. Although some work fine for years others jump the the pointer every time you type (or sneeze). You can turn the touchpad off if you have a mouse for the laptop. Otherwise, you might need to exchange/purchase another model laptop.

Can't/use/my/spacebar/ don/'t/have/recovery/cds/for/satellite/135/using/vista

Hi,
I'm afraid that your recovery CD's won't help you get the space bar working.
There could well be dust, biscuit crumbs, hairs etc that's preventing the spacebar from working, turn the laptop off but don't close the lid, stand the laptop on it's side and get yourself a clean, dry paintbrush.
Start to brush the keys and gently tap the keyboard with the other end of the brush to knock out any foreign objects that could be trapped under the spacebar.
Once your happy it's clean turn the laptop on and see if the spacebar works.
If you still have the same symptoms then the keyboard will have to be replaced.
You can use the on-screen keyboard to substitute for the spacebar for the time being.

Good luck.
