Based on the following bolded statement from http://www.htc.com/ca/faqs.aspx?p_id=269&cat=78&id=99764 , I'm not sure you can do that with stock software...

Q. How do I copy Contacts from my SIM to my phone?
To copy contact entries between the device memory and the SIM card, follow these steps:
Note: Only copying from the SIM card to the device is supported.
From the Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
Press Menu and select Import Contacts.
Perform one of the following:
Move one at a time: Press and hold on and select Import from the pop up Menu.
Move all:
Press the Menu key.
Tap Import all.

If you want to get the contacts off your phone, what I suggest is to synch your contacts with your Gmail account, and export from there to a .csv or .ical file.

Another way to do it is to go to the marketplace and download the "contact exporter" app, then export contacts as a .csv file. then you can log into Gmail and import all those contacts from the same .csv file. this will automatically sync over the air with your another Android phone. Very easy.

How do i add my contacts to my sim i am using a htc wildfire s

To transfer contacts from your current phone to a SIM card, do the following:

  1. On your phone, download the Copy to SIM Card app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Use the app to write as many contacts that will fit onto the SIM card.
  3. After writing is complete, you may use the SIM card and app on a different phone to import contacts from the SIM.

*NOTE* Using a SIM card to transfer contacts is an old, limited method. For the best and most reliable contact transfer between Android phones, simply log into your Google account on each phone to sync contacts wireless between them.

How can i import contacts from another phone using no internet and no sim. i have all my contacts saved on my memory card. My old phone is HTC Wildfire and the new one is Motorola defy.

You see, I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.4 on my Defy for some time now, and I'm sorry for not being able to remember how it is done under Eclair or Froyo, but in Gingerbread, the Contacts application is a tab on the dialer one. Anyway, in the Contacts tab, if I go to 'Menu > Manage contacts', there are settings for exporting/importing contacts to/from the SD card. When exporting, a vcf file is generated in the SD card. When importing, a vcf is searched. So, for compatibility matters, I think you should use the Wildfire to export all your contacts, remove the SD card from the Wildfire, insert it into the Defy, and import your contacts from that file.
Hope it works for you.
Anyway, please, let me know if I can help you out any further.
Regards, Carlos

Hi, i was messing with the sim card to see if another phone worked and when i put it back in my G1, it gets stuck on the opening "android" screen. The white light passes through the word "android' but...

So far, I suspect the G1, not the sim card. However, what type of phone was the other phone, and what issues did it have? did the other phone work with the card at all?

Have you tried a hard-reset - best to take out both battery and sim, leave them out for a few minutes before putting in again, then restart the phone.

Does it have enough power in the battery - suggest charging for a few hours and have another go? What colour is the status light?

Some phones do take a while to boot, did you give the phone plenty of time, eg, ten minutes, to be sure?

I've had a look at this manual:
http://member.america.htc.com/download/Web_materials/Manual/T-Mobile_G1/R1.0-Kila-UserGuide-Rev08-TMUS.pdf
but there's no support contact or troubleshooting info.

HTC support site is for "HTC Dream":
http://www.htc.com/au/faq_detail.aspx?p_id=187&act=faq&cat=0
There is a more comprehensive manual by HTC here, so you may find what you need. Possible you have blocked your SIM by operating it in the other phone without entering the correct PIN, so you may need to obtain an unblock key from your cellular provider to get going again. (see section 1.6 on p34 of the HTC Dream manual)

Other things to try, in case:

Do you use a microSD flash memory card as well, and if so, what happens if you have it in, and if you have it out?

Phones can usually be connected with USB to your computer, have you tried booting it while connected? Can the sync software recognise the phone at all?

Has anything changed with your cell provider, has your contract changed or expired? Assuming you had it working OK before?

Another question - if you have another sim card (a friend maybe?- if your friend is willing to lend you theirs) can you try that in the G1?

Please can you let me know what you have tried out of these, and what else you have tried?

At the very worst you may need to do a factory reset, which would completely erase any data and settings and start over. Only as a last resort. Here are instructions (HTC Dream):
http://www.htc.com/au/faqs.aspx?p_id=187&cat=86&id=108190&f=t
Not possible to do if you can't get into the menus though!

All I can think of for now, hope you can get it working.

How do i unlock my PUK lock

Hi,

It seems you encode a wrong sim card password?

PUK means "personal unlocking key" .

The PUK code is asked if you enter a wrong pin 3 times.

You need to call your phone service company, they can retrieve the puk code from a database

for free.

In your case you need to contact your SIM card phone provider technical support to unlock the SIM.

The PIN and PUK are related to the SIM card, not to the phone.

If you replace the SIM card with a different one, then the phone should not ask for the PUK anymore.

thanks,
