How do you troubleshoot a high limit switch for a Pitco VF35-S Frialator

The pilot flame goes out when the thermostat knob is moved from the off position to the desired temperature setting. Could this be caused by a faulty high limit switch and how do you check it?

To test, jump the two leads on the high limit. However, this sounds most like a faulty gas valve. Most high limits are designed to cut off both the pilot and the main buner.

SOURCE: How do I test the Pitco Frialator 35CS high limit switch

remove connections from hi-limit switch, and put an ohm-meter across connections then heat it with a match or heat source of that temp range, heat the face and watch your meter it will show open when hi limit reaches cutoff limit/if you need exact cutout temp, you will need to have one of those digital read-out temp gun

SOURCE: I have a pitco frialator and the pilot will light

Check if the unit receives the right amount of fuel as stated on its nameplate, if it does, check all wires for loose connections, Milli volt wont pass on loose wiring. If this does not correct the problem, you have to replace the gas valve, the main valve coil may be shorted that's why the pilot is shut when main valve is energized.

SOURCE: after changing the thermostat, the gas valve knob

Try to spray wd40 on knob.
If spraying wd40 doesn't work, you have to replace the gas valve.

Pitco fryer showing heat failure even when the pilot light is on?

Question moved from Misc

HEAT FAILURE - This means the heating system has failed to respond, which can occur because a high temperature limit switch has been tripped and needs resetting. On gas deep fryers, "HEAT FAILURE" may display if the pilot fails to light or if the pilot flame is too weak as detected by the ignition module.

The pilot light goes out when i release the pilot knob. I have a 35 c pitco frialator

Hi there.
Check the thermopile, it must be clean and free of soot or any form of dirt. The gas pressure must be sufficient and all wiring should be tightly connected. Check also the hi limit, it should have continuity across its terminals when tested with an ohm meter.
Regards.

I have a pitco 35c fryer the pilot light will light but the flame is very low it goes out when i release the controll the pilot light adjustment has no effect on flame i have the right amount of fuel...

Check and clean the thermopile, it is the cylindrical piece of metal standing behind the pilot assembly.Try also to tighten its wiring connections to the gas valve and high limit. If it does not correct the problem, replace the thermopile.

.poilit light on but not burnner on even i turn

Check if the gas valve knob is set at "ON" position after lighting the pilot. Check also it the thermopile is receiving enough heat from pilot flame and try also to tighten all wiring connections on gas valve, thermostat and hi limit. If these do not seem to correct the problem, you have to replace the thermopile.

Fryer lights off, but won't turn off when the thermostat is turned to the off position

The pilot flame will stay lighted even when the thermostat is off, you have to turn the gas valve knob to off position in order to shut the pilot flame.
But when burner flame remains on after shutting off the thermostat, the thermostat's mechanical contacts are shorted or remained engaged. If this is tha case, you have to replace the thermostat.

I have a 40c+ss pitco fryer.the pilot will go out at random times.Could be 1hr or 24 hrs after it is lit. The gas valve has been change, and the thermalpile has been replaced.

Check if your pilot flame sufficiently heats thermopile during operation and make sure also that it is free of soot or any form of dirt, thermopile generates small amount of electricity to energize pilot and main valve of the gas valve for pilot and main burner operation. This electricity passes through hi limit mechanical contacts. Hi limit on fryers act as safety device which will shut down pilot and burner flame when oil temperature reaches 450F.
If your fryer is set at 350F and over shoots up to 450F (which will trip hi limit and shut down pilot and burner flame), the thermostat is not good, but, if hi limit trips on temperature much lower than 450F, hi limit is bad.

Pilot light goes out

Two things to check. Make sure you have continuity through the terminals on the high limit. Also make sure you have a good pilot flame and the pilot generator is supplying over 500 millivolts. It's either the high limit or the generator.

Pitco Frialator SF14 pilot will light and the burners will light but within an hour it completely shuts off (pilot and burners). The high limit and thermostat have been changed 1 month ago.

Check the hi limit sensing bulb, it should not touch the fire tube, when it does, it will sense high temperature which will trip its mechanical contacts and will shut pilot and burner flames.
Make also sure that the thermopile is free of soot or any form of dirt and is properly heated by the pilot flame.
