3 long beeps during post - EliteGroup P4VMM2 Motherboard

some laptops and desk tops beep on start up.but some beep when it has ram problems.

Step 1:
The beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram, all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains 1 short beep : Normal POST - system is ok
2 short beeps : POST Error - error code shown on screen

No beep : Power supply or system board problem
Continuous beep: Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem

Repeating short beeps: Power supply or system board problem

1 long, 1 short beep : System board problem
1 long, 2 short beeps: Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)
1 long, 3 short beeps: Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)

Hi,
If your computer is beeping during the boot up phase then you may have a problem with your laptop. Depending on your system model the beeps will tell you what the problem is and from there you can troubleshoot the problem. I wrote a tech article which goes over computer post issues and beep codes. BIOS Beep Codes
Whenever a recoverable error occurs during POST, the BIOS displays an error message describing the problem. The BIOS also issues a beep code (one long tone followed by two short tones) during POST if the video configuration fails (a faulty video card or no card installed) or if an external ROM module does not properly checksum to zero.
An external ROM module (for example, a video BIOS) can also issue audible errors, usually consisting of one long tone followed by a series of short tones. For more information on the beep codes issued, check the documentation for that external device.
There are several POST routines that issue a POST terminal error and shut down the system if they fail. Before shutting down the system, the terminal-error handler issues a beep code signifying the test point error, writes the error to I/O port 80h, attempts to initialize the video and writes the error in the upper left corner of the screen (using both monochrome and color adapters).
If POST completes normally, the BIOS issues one short beep before passing control to the operating system.

Do a google search on Bios Beep Codes for the first, and to enter the BIOS setup, most PCs use the DEL key during the self-test. Some others use the F2 key. Most detail that, on the bottom line of the display during the post sequence.

The long beep during post means there is a conflict in the start up procedure in the Bios. This can be anything from bad ram to hardware failure. If it starts up and the time is wrong the beep could be your internal bios battery is dead.(just a small watch battery )
