I think you mean the key to access windows vista home basic. The key should be located on the back of you laptop near some bar codes it should be 25 caracters long like XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

You can be sneaky:
Download a nifty program called the "ProductKeyFinder" it should be free. Run it on your friend's computer with the EXACT SAME operating system and and copy down his key. If you get in trouble that's too bad.

Are you using the original ac power adapter, or one that is designed for use with your model to ensure that it is fitting tightly where it plugs into the laptop at the dc jack?
If so, the dc jack could be broken, which could prevent the battery from charging properly, resulting in the flashing amber light, which is indicating that the battery is still low and needs recharging.
Another possibility is that the battery is defective, but the more likely problem is the dc jack since it is such a common problem.

This is not enough to go on - you need to post more detail - operating system, mail program, error message, things that changed since you could send mail, ISP mail settings, etc.

clear the cmos(bios), you must unplug the battery on mainboard(if you are an expert and you can open the laptop) for 10 hours (or short it) then power the laptop.

Try to boot the machine in safe mode by pressing F8 as the computer starts up, if will let you boot into safe mode as it sounds like there could be some bad sectors on the drive causing it to hang on boot.
To check this right click on the C drive and select "properties", then select "tools" tab, in the tools option check the volume for errors.
This can take some time to perform so please be patient.

If you can't get the machine to boot into safe mode please post back
