I have installed XM radio on my Kenwood 7100 and the XM stations sound like crap. There is a faint static in the background, mostly noticeable when someone is speaking. There is also a sporatic cracking or skipping during play. This only happens with XM stations. I have Radio, DVD, and TV on this unit and those are crisp and clear. I have double checked all connections and there is no interference between the reciever and the SAT. I get all the stations and recieve the traffic updates and weather from XM with a max signal. I am using the GXM 30 XM (smart ant). I have checked with tech support at Kenwood, Garmin and XM and each blames one of the others products. None would provide a possible cause or own up to "their" product being possibly at fault.
I have my XM antenna on top of the cab immediately above my head and the Garmin inside the cab near the front speaker. So that would be another option in case you don't want to or don't have the cable to put one in the back. Have experienced no problems as of yet. Sound seems fine with my arrangement.
If the xm and gps antennas are close together this will happen. u will have to move one to the front and the other to the back of the vehicle.

At least you got sound, what did u do that I'm not doing? Did you have to change your audio settings? I noticed that you can change what's playing in the front and in the back. I have audio for moves and CD's but nothing for XM.
Just a note, I got my XM radio sound going tonight. I noticed no problems with the sound quality but I didn't have it real high yet in proportion to my other sources of audio. I will let you know as soon as I try it louder.
I recently purchased the dnx7100 with an xm antenna. I have the same problem with the sound quality. It is very poor as if it is overcompressed. Changing the equalizer settings makes no difference. The sound from CDs and my iPod are fine. The gps antenna is in the middle of my dash and the xm on the extreme right dash. The signal strength is full. Perhaps the proximity of the two is too near. Has anyone found a solution? Does Sirius suffer the same problem?
I have the 7100 and XM doesn't run with the XMdirect and although people claim it runs on XMdirect2 there is no software to download for it. don't know how you vene received it?
I have a DNX-8120 and I just added the Kenwood KCA-XM100V. I noticed that on all the XM stations, the sound quality is poor. The frequency response on the upper range is bad. It sounds as though all the higher frequencies are truncated off, and the dynamic range is really low. My XM antenna is on the roof of my car, near the rear window (on the exterior), and my GPS antenna is all the way in the front of the car. Any suggestions on how to get better sound quality out of XM?
