D400 is not booting up from usb - Dell Latitude D400 Notebook

Reboot the system and before Windows loads press the F12 key to get a boot menu. Choose the restore option. If that is corrupt or missing, try this:

use usb bootable konboot to bypass user login then create admin account and delete existing one :)

Do you still have this problem if you boot into safe mode? If not, then there is a problem with one of your programs interfering with usb drivers.
If it does still happen in safe mode, then you may need to re-install your drivers. To do this, boot up normally, go to Start/control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Find your USB section, and right-click the USB Root hubs, and uninstall them. Then reboot, and windows will then detect the usb ports, and reinstall the necessary drivers for proper operation.

The biggest issue docking is airflow. With the system docked, airflow is restricted.

Might look at ways of improving airflow.

Any external CD/DVD drive that connects to USB should work.

there a hard disk problem, probably has no hd-disk. you must reclaim for a new working hd.
