It happen to my kid too. It seems that Nintendo DS Lite has a malfunction in the plug for an external mic that usually causes a malfunction of the internal one. Try moving with a needle the pins of the external mic connector inside the nintendo. After moving them (as trying to separate them one from each other) you will see that the internal mic will go back to life.

Don't get despaired! You will need several attempts to succeed. But I did!!!

Where is the microphone located?

Hello bdbsmom. The location of the microphone for the Nintendo DS is located at the hinge between the middle of the two screens. Are you having a problem with the microphone or were you just curious?

My Nintendo DS microphone broke for no reason and my sister's also broke for no reason...What should I do?

Go thru these steps to see if its a configuration issue with the DS:

Restart your Nintendo DS. Sometimes a quick restart will fix your microphone problem. Do this on both systems. All the steps that I mention, do them on both systems.

Check whether your microphone volume is up. Access this feature through the DS menu. If the microphone’s volume is down, it will not receive any sound.

Make sure the volume on your Nintendo DS is up. If your speakers are off, you won't hear whether your microphone works.

If these steps do not correct the problem, then systems will need to be serviced cause the main board would be bad at that point.

Ds lite microphone not working. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, The Ds microphone is relatively straight forward to replace and can be bought on eBay etc if you wished to fix it yourself. Alternatively if you contact a local DS retailer they will be able to put you in contact with nintendo who will fix it for a fee.

I don't know of anyway to bypass the activities in any games reliant on the microphone.

The microphone on my ds lite is not working......i have read somewhere you can change the mic volume level.......but cant seem to find a setting to do so?

What game are you playing? On some games if it has the option of using the microphone you may be able to adjust the settings in t he game but when the game is removed they go back to default. Other than that I haven't seen anything that really talks about a microphone level setting.

The Microphone on DS Lite won't respond.

It sounds like you either need to repair the microphone or you could buy a headset with microphone and see if that works as it plugs directly into the main board.

Microphone not working

The microphone level can only be adjusted in certain games. Have you tried using the mic in any other games? Most likely, the mic is simply defective; I have heard of more than one case of manufacturing defects with Nintendo DS microphones. How long have you had the system? If it is still under warranty, Nintendo should fix the system for free.
