My console wont work and when it did it had an error sign. Something about needing a pak. What do I need and how do I get one?

your looking for the "expansion pack" its needed to play the games on the n64, it is located on top of the n64 towards he front of the console. that little door/flap between the power and reset button. get one online for cheap. like ebay or something. keep in mind there are 2 different kind of expansion packs on is black. it is the standard one. one is red on top, that one is better and will play all n64 games like donkey kong 64 and zelda ocarina of time

How do you erase memory from the memory pak

  • Plug an N64 controller into the "Player 1" port on the Nintendo 64.
  • 2 Place the N64 Controller Pack into the memory card slot on the Nintendo 64 controller.
  • 3 Insert a Nintendo 64 game into the cartridge slot on the N64.
  • 4 Hold down "Start" on the N64 controller.
  • 5 Turn the Nintendo 64 on via the "Power" switch on the device. After the console loads, the Controller Pack menu will appear on the screen.
  • 6 Release the "Start" button on the N64 controller.
  • 7 Browse through the saves listed, using the N64 controller's directional pad.
  • 8 Highlight the game you want to erase.
  • 9 Select the "Delete" option. The pages that were occupied by the game save will be erased from the Controller Pack.
  • 10 Repeat Steps 7 though 9 until you're finished erasing pages on the Controller Pak. Restart the N64 if you wish to play the game that was inserted into the device, or turn the Nintendo 64 off if you are done using the console.

    GOD GARNED N64 GAMESHARK!

The original GameShark for the N64 only works on certain games. During the N64 era, game creators would often include code on the game itself that prevented the use of a GameShark. It is possible that you can find a newer version of the GameShark that would work with this so called "blocked" games, but it might be difficult.

I'm assuming that this is the GameShark Pro for the N64. If so, the button is used to find and create your own cheats, such as infinite life, infinite ammo, etc...

To use this feature, start the game, say a first person shooter, and load into a level and when you are ready to begin playing, press the button. The GameShark screen will show up and you can say "search for code" or "search for changes" something like that and the game shark will run a diagnostic that it shows on the screen. A number will appear noting the number of lines of code executed since the game loaded. When it is finished, press the button again and it will return you to the game exactly as you left it. If you are trying to get infinite ammo, simply shoot once and press the gameshark button again to search for codes again. When it is finished, the number it shows will be much smaller, since much less lines of code have executed since the last run. Press the gameshark button again to return to the game and continue the process until you have only a few, say 5 or less, or even just one code left on the gameshark diagnostic. This code will be the one that dictates the amount of ammo that you have. By altering this code with the gameshark, you can either start with an extremely high amount of ammo, or have infinite ammo entirely. The key to this strategy is to do as little as possible between code searches so that you can quickly narrow down on the code that you trying to alter. Hope this helps.

N64 turns on but nothing shows up on the TV

I have the same problem and from what I've read elsewhere on the net, it seems to be easily amendable by one of two solutions.

    - You can re-tune a channel on your TV (not one of the main ones) and it will find the frequency for your N64 to run on

    - If you had a gamecube the yellow, red and white output cables that came with that are (apparently) compatible with both the N64 and SNES and that way you wont have to tune your TV.

Unfortunately for me, I did not have a GC and my TV will not re-tune due to the button on the controller not working! Good luck.
