Your looking for the "expansion pack" its needed to play the games on the n64, it is located on top of the n64 towards he front of the console. that little door/flap between the power and reset button. get one online for cheap. like ebay or something. keep in mind there are 2 different kind of expansion packs on is black. it is the standard one. one is red on top, that one is better and will play all n64 games like donkey kong 64 and zelda ocarina of time

Verify that only licensed accessories are being used with the system. Unlicensed products are not fully compatible with Nintendo systems, and may not work correctly.

Check the game pak manual or packaging to verify that the game is designed to be used with the N64 Transfer Pak.

Make sure the Game Boy game pak works properly in a Game Boy system. It may be a problem with the Game Boy game pak and not the Transfer Pak.

Verify that the game paks are inserted in both the control deck and the N64 Transfer Pak. If they are not, insert them and then turn the control deck power off and back on again.

Verify that the controller is plugged into the proper controller socket on the front of the control deck. If it is not, secure it and then press reset on your control deck.

Remove and re-insert the N64 Transfer Pak, making sure the pak is fully inserted into the bottom of the controller. If it is not, secure it and then press reset on the control deck.

If possible, try another controller. If the Transfer Pak works in another controller, it may be the controller that is having a problem. Check out controller troubleshooting (click here).

If the issue persists, the Transfer Pak may need to be replaced. For information on locating replacements for older products, please click here.

I have an old N64 and to play majora's mask it says i need an expansion pak so i ordered an expansion pak but when i replaced the jumper pak with the expansion pak the system still turns on but for some...

If your Nintendo 64 console operates without error when the jumper pak is installed, but fails to function when the expansion pak is installed, by process of elimination this most likely means that the expansion pak you purchased is defective.

However, prior to purchasing another expansion pak (or attempting to exchange/get refunded for it), make sure the contact points on both the pak and the console slot are free of any dust, dirt, or other contaminants. Use a lint-free, dry cloth to do this. Water and/or cleaning products can further damage the system.

If, after cleaning the contacts, it still fails to function, seek an exchange or refund.

The light wont even turn on when i try to turn mine on, it hasnt been turned on in a while so i yeh , does anyone knoe what i should do ??

  1. Make sure you are using a licensed AC Adapter (the system's power cord). The name Nintendo should be molded into the actual AC Adapter unit. Unlicensed products are not fully compatible with Nintendo systems and may not work correctly. Also ensure all accessories connected to your system are licensed as well. (Expansion Pak, Controllers, Rumble Pak and Controller Pak.)
  2. Make sure you are not using any game enhancing devices. Such devices are unlicensed and are not recommended by Nintendo, as they may not let your system function properly.
  3. Firmly plug the AC Adapter into the AC Power Supply port on the back of the Control Deck and firmly plug the AC Adapter into the wall outlet.
  4. Make sure your wall outlet works. To check it, try plugging a lamp into the same outlet where your system was plugged in. Turn the lamp on the verify the outlet works. Also, make sure you are not using an outlet that is operated from a wall switch. If you do, make sure the wall switch is in the ON position.
  5. Slide the Power Switch on the Control Deck to the ON position.
  6. If it still does not work, you'll need to RESET the AC Adapter. To do this, remove all the accessories (including the Game Pak and all controllers) from the deck. Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If your system works without the Game Pak and controllers plugged in, there may be something defective with either the Game Pak or one of the accessories. Turn the power off and plug ONE accessory into your system, then turn the system on to see if it still works. Repeat this process with ONE accessory at a time to see if you can figure out which accessory may be in need of repair.
If these steps do not resolve the symptoms you are experiencing with your system, your system may need to be replaced. For more information on what options are available, please click here.

Does anything need to be conected to controller apart from lead to console, got someone staying dont know if they have forgotten any bits

AC Adapter to Console, to Wall.
AV Cable from Console to TV
Controller Lead into N64 system

That's it!

You also need to have a jumper pak [or ram expansion pak] in the system for it to work -- but no one should have removed it, so it should still be there.

Nintendo 64 Pokemon Stadium Transfer Pak Error

Its most likely the controller. When you put in the pack is it loose? You could try cleaning the GB game and trying again.

N64's Zelda, majoras mask problem

The Jumper pack is needed for Majora's mask, as the extra space is needed for the game to play the enhanced graphics. Ocarina of time was made before the jumper pak was introduced, so it does not need it.
As for installing it, get a jumper pak installer kit to remove the original memory pak, the insert the new one.

Nintendo 64 console

Too many variables to answer this yet. Where did the expansion pak come from? Was it new or used? Was a jumper pak in place and the console working before you installed the expansion pak? Did you unplug the console before removing the jumper pak and installing the expansion pak?
