My KDS-R50XBR1 has a small circle of light in the Lens now after I changed lcd panels because of the green problem associated with these models. And when I look closer into the projection lens I see horizontal and vertical lines I believe. The circle of light is probably about a half an inch to an inch and that is all that comes out of it. Maybe that is just the brightness coming from the lamp which works.
I may have ruined the optical board when I tried to put the cover on wrong while changing panel. I remember actually trying to force the chrome cover back on the optical block board and then realized it was upside down and those 2 white pegs may have damaged the board.
The only other thing that I can think of is that I was in the svc mode prior to this but couldn't get into the patterns so I just turned off the TV and then installed the panel. So I doubt if I did any damage, but who knows. And it worked before I shut it off.
Any ideas?

The red blinks are a diagnostic tool. If you search this site for KDS-R50XBR1 you will see several problems and the area to look in to. the red blinks should be followed by a three second pause and then repeat. Just count the blinks after the pause and you should have a better idea of what is wrong. The service manual goes all the way up to ten blinks.
Hi, If Lamp light blinks then it is lamp that is near to end of its working life. If standby light is blinking then it is some thing else, when did you replaced lamp in tv last time? Thanks.
Hi, It is clear symptoms of weak lamp in TV, replace lamp to correct that problem. Lamp replacement is easy and written in user manual of TV. Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety. Thanks.
Sounds like your optical block neeeds replaced, my kds-r50xbr1 just started getting the yellow-green haze who knew $3000 t.v's would only last 2 years urghh check out this link to sony and call the (866) 850-8674
Its another instance of the optical block (light engine) failure these TVs are known for. Heat from the lamp has damaged the LCD panels in the light engine. Sony has been directed by the attorney general's office in New York to warranty these TVs going back 4 model years. Call Sony at: 1-800-222-SONY for assistance.
