Clarion Marine XMD3 / SIR-CL1 Sirius Troubleshooting

I have a new to me boat with the Clarion Marine XMD3 head unit and SIR-Cl1 Siruis tuner installed.  I have tried to setup the Siruis service with no luck.  When you try and activate the unit it tells you to go to channel 184 and then activate.  I have tried this countless times and the odd thing is that the radio always changes from channel 184 to 1?  I also get the message " Invalid Ch"  I called Sirius and they were no help and told me to contact Clarion...unfortunately Clarion's tech support is only M-F 9-5.

And help is appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with my car indash unit (DXZ945MP). Have had it for 4 years, car was in storage. Took the car out of storage and had account activated but can't get signal. Try to set to chl 184 but keeps jumping back to 1 and gives 'invalid channel' on readout. Was working fine last November before storage.

I have the exact same issue with my Claion Marine XMD3 and SIR-CL1. I can send Sirius activations to it until I'm blue in the face but never get a message that it is updating. If anyone has found a solution for this please let us know.

Same problem with my Claion Marine XMD3 and SIR-CL1. Spoke with Sirius Tech Support and they said they are having an issue with these units since they did a software update.

    Waiting for response from Sirius

Just bought a used boat this weekend with an XMD3 and SIR-CL1. They make it impossible to get to Channel 184, and thus impossible to activate your radio. This is obviously Sirius' problem, so I am interested to see what they are going to do about it. Keep me posted on what kind of response you get out of them.

I'm a little bummed about though, part of what sold me on this boat was the fact that it was ready to go with Sirius (and the wake board tower.) I already have Sirius in 2 vehicles so I thought it would be great to add it to the boat for the summer.

Ditto. I've had my Marine XMD3 / SIR-CL1 for three seasons and it has worked well. This year, after being in winter storage, I get only "Invalid Ch" on all channels, including Ch 184. I've been able to get it to "stick" on Ch 184 only after multiple attempts and some good timing with the channel UP/ DOWN buttons. Ch 184 ought to be picked up even if your account isn't activated, but I get "Invalid Ch" on this too. I called the Sirius Tech yesterday. She suggested a new antenna... I priced that at $105, so I'll wait for another idea before trying that. The software update issue sounds most likely. I'll try Sirius Tech support again with this info and see if they have other ideas. Has anyone had luck with Clarion Tech support?

I just bought a boat which had the same unit and problem. You cant get to channel 184. I was able to use the category change button to get the unit to pick up something other than invalid channel. Then I would scan the channels within that category to make presets. However, I can now only get Rock and Pop categories to come up... I need to find out how to get other categories.

I had the same problem with invalid channel on all channels ! Had to reset the siriuss receiver by removing power for 15 sec and restoring! that means not just shuting it off but removing all power to the sirius unit not the clarion unit itself and reastablishing power to it turning on the clarion head unit and walah! satelite would recieve ESN and 184 and programing! Hope it works for you after 3 long waiting periods on the phone!

I called Sirius on Sunday. I was still getting the "invld ch" when I tried getting to 184 , but the tech got it hooked up while I was on Channel 1 still, so keep on Sirius. If they say they can't do anything for you, don't let them leave it at that. Good luck all.

The invalid channel is a problem with the sirius box and ant not the stereo unfortunately clarion no longer makes the stereo or that older style box everything is cmd4 or cmd5 systems now most often it has been the ant or connection it's just shoved in to the box nothing holds the ant cable to the box make sure it didn't fall off good luck.

Clarion Marine Problem w Sirius CeNet Unit

When a CD changer or Sirius satellite receiver is added to a system, the source unit’s main wiring harness must be disconnected before the changer and/or satellite receiver’s CeNET cable is connected to the source unit. Otherwise, the source unit will not “recognize” that a CD changer or Sirius satellite receiver has been added.

Constantly goes to "linking" whenever I select Sirius. Sirius tells me that means an antenna problem. However, I have tried a new antenna with the same results.

The unit needs to be replaced. solder pins on the PC board of the unit are broken. Clarion has about 100,000 of these units with the same problem. You can find a replacement online for $50 that's been fixed & the problem should not re-occur. Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps
