Make sure that it is not Muted, Windows comes with Mics muted. If you have a newer Mac most require a powered Mic.

Audio driver is working properly but mic is not working.....using lenovo g430 3000

Hello,
If the audio driver is working properly but the microphone isn't, ensure that: 1(a). The microphone is not muted. On Windows XP, go to start, run and type sndvol32 and press enter button to launch the Windows Sound Volume Management Panel. Under the Microphone volume control, uncheck "mute" box. This should make your microphone functional again. (b). The wrong microphone may be selected, esp. if your sound-card has an external port for microphones. To rectify the problem, use 1(a) as illustrated above, go to File>Advanced Controls and select Input Devices.Under the Microphone advanced settings, you'll see MIC1 Select and MIC2 Select. Switch the selection as appropriate until it works. 2. If the audio driver has it's own Sound management Panel, e.g that of Realtek, open it's sound control panel and disable all microphone effects that may be enabled. 3. Ensure that sound acceleration is maximum. Open the DirectX Diagnostics Engine by going to Start>Run> and type dxdiag and press enter button. When the window opens, click the Sound tab and slide the Sound acceleration bar to maximum.
I hope my solutions work.Have a good day.

Microphone does not work

Resolving Microphone issues.
If microphone boost is selected, noise can interfere with recording. Follow the steps below to check for and disable the microphone boost setting.

Check Microphone settings

Follow the steps below to verify the microphone settings.

  1. Right-click the Sound icon in the system taskbar, beside the clock. Select Recording Devices from the drop-down menu.

  3. Tap the plastic above the display gently. The meter should respond to the sound stimulus by rising and falling.

I CAN SEE OTHER PERSON AND THEY CAN SEE ME BUT CANT HEAR ME BUT I CAN HEAR THEM .WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG

The problem is either the microphone is not connected/faulty or the wrong microphone is selected in the Skype Audio setting.
To check if the microphone is working - go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and do a test recording.
If the sound is doesn't work then open Device Manager - Sound, video and game controllers and check the microphone is enabled and working. If it isn't listed or has a yellow ? against the microphone then you need to install the microphone device driver.
If the microphone is working then open Skype then click on Tools tab -then Options - Audio Settings - then in microphone setting and click on the microphone list to select your model microphone. Then Save your settings.
To test your microphone settings then go to Contact list and select Echo / Sound Test.Service and follow the instructions. If this works then your friends will be able to hear you,

Cannot get laptop microphone working

Double click on the little speaker icon on the Desktop toolbar at the bottom right of your screen. The volume control window will open. Click on options then properties. Next check the small round recording button. Now make sure he microphone box is checked then click ok. Now a window will open that will show your microphone recording level. Move the slider up about half way and make sure to check the small "Select" box near the bottom of the slider. Open up sound recorder or whatever application you are using and try to record. If this does not work I would get an external microphone plug it into your laptop and try recording again. If the external mic works then I would think that you internal microphone is not working. There are some very cheap external mics on the market that sound very good. If you are doing any serius recording you may want to invest in a USB microphone. The USB mic should come with it's own software and setup should be pretty simple. I hope I have been helpful.

I CANNOT GET THE MICROPHONE WORKING

This could be due to several reasons -
> Faulty microphone (something could be wrong with the device, or the input jack) - Try using your microphone on a friend's PC. If it is working fine, then proceed to the next line.

> Incorrectly installed sound card - Have you installed the sound card and its drivers correctly? Update your sound card's drivers, and then give it a try with the microphone.
> Go to Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices. Go to Audio tab, and in the Sound Recording  section, check whether your sound card is selected. Click on Volume button here, and ensure that Microphone is "Selected". Do the same with the Voice tab too.
