History,  Unit was purchased through ebay.
I do not know if it ever worked correctly.
Have attempted to operate it via two seperate keyboards & two seperate mice. All verified OK .No response . Assume possible missing drivers or incorrect start up routine.any idea how to correct.

Done all that ,Usb Ports do work.Key board will flash on start up but then goes to windows XP no control of any kind .No F keys work nothing .No response from F8 on boot either. .Think bin job.

Not able to work even the BIOS ,some sort of fault is reported in passing. however. As the USB ports appear to work I think it may be possible to network it.or try a usb keyboard.

Connect a PS2 keyboard & mounse before you turn the computer on. Drivers for a USB k&m are included with Windows. Do the USB ports work?

What keyboard? What mouse? Has it ever worked? When did it stop? What changed since it last worked? Have you scanned for viruses? Changed USB ports? Changed batteries? Tried reconnecting the wireless transmitter/receiver?

Hi, Check in your Bios if Usb keyboard and Mouse Support is enabled, otherwise you can use a Ps2 Keyboard just to get to the desktop, then you should be able to install your keyboard and mouse, yor pc should automatically detect the devices

Ive just reinstalled windows xp and the keyboard and mouse are not responding so i cant access desktpo at all

Hi.

If both the keyboard and mouse are USB connections then you will have to wait a couple of minutes for the operating system to install the drivers for them, just keep on wiggling the mouse until the cursor moves.

If that does not work please post back.

Regards.

Keyboard & mouse will not register while cpu is booting up but works fine once windows is started

This is likely due to your computer not loading the USB drivers until after windows starts.

You could do a BIOS browse at start up to see if there is a setting for this, but I doubt it.

Dell d410 laptop has a locked mousepad and when I turn it on.

The led, is indicating that the Numlock is engaged on the keyboard.
If the touchpad stops responding but keyboard inputs work, then the touchpad is either failed or disabled. If the keyboard is none responsive too, then the operating system has locked up and that is an entirely different issue. If the OS is locking up, try booting to SAFE Mode from the F8 menu and see if you can access anything. If still locking in Safe mode, you may end up installing Windows Again. If Safe mode works, then you can check event logs and edit MSCONFIG startup group and the like to find the SW issue

Windows XP Pro USB HID problem.

First suggestion is to shut down, change ports and then, upon reboot, wait a few minutes to let XP resolve the 'new' USB devices.
Second suggestion is to download and install the manufacturers drivers and then try switching ports.
Final suggestion is to use the port that works. i.e. I went to the doctor and said "It hurts when I do this". He replied "Well, then don't do that.".
Good luck
p.s. you may want to list the model of the keyboard if you would like a more specific response.
