You need two things, the settings for the VPN to setup your computer to connect, and you need to set your router to allow VPN passthrough, look for settings like IPSEC, PPTP, etc. in your router's setup.
Usually you can access your router's setup through a web page, to access this, Click on start, then run, type in CMD and press OK. When the command prompt window comes up, type in IPCONFIG. Note the Default Gateway IP address that is listed.
Open a browser like Internet Explorer, and type in that IP address into the address bar like this:
http://192.168.1.1
Then you will probably need a user name and password to get in, and while you are in there, check for things like port forwarding, applications, and VPN to find the settings that you are looking for.
