Toshiba satellite laptop 1900 - does not accept usb2 card

This laptop is a few years old and came with 2 usb ports and the promise that it would be upgradeable to USB 2 when the standard was finalized.  However, when "Best Buy's" "Geek Squad" tried to install a USB 2 into the card slot, it keeps on dumping (blue screen) and then freezes.

I would appreciate any suggestions, since in all other ways the laptop works well.

Thanks

How to convert USB3 to USB2

The software drivers are different n Windows 8.1, you can either get an update for it, or just use it on the XP. USB2 is irrelevant.

no PCMCIA (PCcard slots) HP uses express card slots 2004 and newer LT.
no mini-PCI slots, for LAN.

yes, old PCs do not have Giglan ports, Ethernet 1000)
compaq 6810s you meant 6820 right? cant find anything on 6810s
zero.

the 6820 has Intel 82562G chip for this.
1 x network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX - RJ-45

the main board has wireless module but no wired, module
the intel chip on board does all that. Ethernet slow.
to upgrade , the only path on stinky laptops is USB ports.
a USB /LAN dongle and express card slot.

the problem is getting USB to fast enough,
it has 3 x USB2.0 (not usb 3, that came out 2 years later)
usb2 is 480Mbit/sec rated ports.
1000

so what can you expect from a USB 2 /lan dongle?
ego this. (ive never tired it on my old LT (cache)

you can not get 1000 mbit/s speed of any 480port. USB2
1 gigabit per second, (or gigalan speeds)
but try it, see how fast it can go on USB2.
be fun to try and some are only $10 cost, search find, try./

this PC has an Express CARD port.
if luck this might work but are not cheap

i can not tell you it works in the HP, at all, why not ask HP

Toshiba sattelite 1800 usb2

No. This unit has USB 1.1

USB 2.0 did not come out until about a year or so after this unit was made. You can however use an expansion card in the pc card slot to upgrade it to USB 2.0.

Which usb ports are 2.0 speed on my m55-s3512?

Well, with the usual efficiency of Toshiba, I can't locate the M55 series laptops to lookup, the M50 does seem to be similar though and all the USB ports there are 2.0.
Easiest way? Find a new USB device (memory stick for example) and plug it into each port in turn. Give windows enough time to detect and install it, and if it's a USB1 port, you'll get a message saying "This device can perform faster in a USB2 port".

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY TOSHIBA SATELLITE U405D-S2852 USB PORTS it comes with 3 usb ports but from those 3 only only accepts a new device installed on the laptop, the other 2 only send a error message...

It's possibly a power issue. Some USB devices draw a lot of power but not all ports are capable of providing the power. Generally for things like portable HDs etc use the rear port(s) as they provide more power

USB2 ports on siemens C 1020

The USB Controller is too old and only handles USB 1.1
If you want to upgrade to USB 2.0 you can do what I did for my old gateway. I bought a USB2.0 PCMCIA card. You can pick them up for anywhere from 20 bucks on up, depending on how many ports you want. Best Buy has them so I would imagine any computer retailer would be able to snag one for you.

Hope this helps.

Zun2200 CardBus freezes Toshiba laptop

Double check with Toshiba.com to see if an updated CardBus driver is available for the Laptop, not the accessory. also look for Chipset and BIOS updates.

Also check out the ZUN220 manufacturer site for a new driver as well.

Dell precision not recognising usb 2.0

sounds not,  some of the older systems only have 1.1, Usb 2 is not all that old (about 2-3 years).
you can upgrade to USB2 bu adding a USB2 PCI card to your system, this would give you some ports on the back and it may be possible to link the ports on the front to the new PCI card to upgrade those as well (depending on how they are connected to the mobo)
you can get USB2 cards with a Pin header which would allow for a pin block connection.
