The remote turns light on and off and turns fan on and off but the wall control does not do either
I found that if you change the setting on the switch too rapidly, it can throw the breaker. So before you disassemble anything or try to get anything replaced, just check the breaker box.
It comes with a hand held remote. Unless you have the compatible wall transmitter, you'll only be able to use the hand-held remote. The switch on the wall has to be on for the remote to work.

I have a newer Minka w/ wall controller. The books says to make sure both the wall control and the receiver(up in the fan) are both programmed the same. My receiver has no little switches but has a sticker stating that you need to hold the 'fan off' button down for 3 seconds after turning on the power so the receiver can memorize the program in the wall switch. You have 60 sec to do this after power is turned on. Good luck !

There are tiny dip switches on the remote as well as on the receiver. Make sure they are set to the same sequence. The receiver is the black box that all the wires connect to in the ceiling.

what you actually need to do is have the fan on ie. spinning (albeit in
the wrong direction) then press and hold the change direction button.
after about 10 seconds or so the fan will slow down and then start to
spin in the opposite direction.
it's silly they don't make this clear in any of the instruction manuals.
