Image is always black, CCD working fine

The display screen is working fine and I can navigate all the options, but the image is always jet black, I've taken videos and photos and they're always black. I think the lens is broken somewhere, although I hope not. How can I fix this cheaply?!

I had just posted this when I researched it some more on the Canon website (UK by the way)

It seems that it is the CCD problem and they are offering free repairs in the USA and UK at least. Thanks for the help!

Display is black cannot see pictures taken

Hi there:
Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image). CCD (Charge Coupled Device) is one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras.

When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details:Bad CCDs. This, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Casio ex z60 was dropped, screen is intact no image from ccd

YOU STATE THAT THE CAMERA PLAYS BACK PREVIOUS IMAGES? ARE YOU STILL ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES? IF YOU ARE, MOST LIKELY THERE HAS BEEN SOME DAMAGE BETWEEN THE IMAGE PROCESSOR AND THE LCD. THE FACT THAT THE MENU AND OTHER IMAGES STILL WORK MEANS THE LCD IS OK, SO YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO HAVE THE CAMERA REPAIRED TO CORRECT THE DAMAGE FROM THE IMAGE PROCESSOR TO THE LCD, BUT I BELIEVE THE REPAIR COST WILL BE MORE THAN THE COST OF THE CAMERA. I FOUND THE CAMERA ON EBAY FOR A STARTING BID OF $9.99. SORRY, BUT I JUST WANT YOU TO HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, REPLY TO ARCLIGHT1217. IF THIS HAS BEEN HELPFUL, PLEASE RATE, THANKS!
