SOURCE: Sanyo DVD Player
Somebody said they had the same problem, and suggested the following: On the DVD unit, press STOP and POWER buttons at the same time, and then IMMEDIATELY (1 second or less) press the PREV button. He said, for him it popped up with WM for the Market and 1 for the Region automatically. The codr WM is 00 if you need it. That was all he had to do, and now it's working. Hope that helps anybody else who comes along with the same problem.

I went to Sanyos website and there is no manuals for them. My first DVD player was a Sanyo I bought at Wal Mart and I was told at the time someone else was handling support for them but you might want to contact Sayno and find out who it is.
DVD players on PCs are easier to do that to since there plugged into a computer and can be programmed but to do it normally to a stand alone DVD is tough to do without adding mod chips to it. By changing the region to a different one than the player is certified to run on (if you can), can result in the machine not playing DVDs at all.
I found this on Google, maybe this will answer your questions:

This may be because it is region locked. The following will make the player region free and possibly solve your problem. By making your player region free you MAY be voiding any warranty the player has on it.

For that you need to do a google for "mymodel region free" or "region free hack"
Not all dvd players are capable of this often very simple modification (usually just involves the remote control and a combination of keys)
Your search will turn up a lot of sharks that want money for the hack
IGNORE THEM
There are a lot of sites where the information is free.
I am unsure of FIXYA's policy on this topic so would prefer not to get my @ss kicked. That is why I gave you the search terms rather than site links
