Simpletech 500 GB external hard drive - unresponsive

Simpletech 500 GB external hard drive - worked fine for years - had just downloaded photos from digital camera and edited them using Picasa - suddenly everything froze and the hd has not worked since - the hd has several thousand pictures - suddenly it does not show up on Drive K (or any drive) on My Computer. Have tried several different USB ports and on lap top - any idea how to access the files?

Have HP external Drive # HD 3200. While I can see the Icon for the software and can see my files, I cannot activate the software. Can I download a particular file to restore it and if so does that file go on the external drive?

If you really can not get it to work anymore, you could try opening it up and connecting the hdd directly on a IDE/SATA port in your computer. This will only work if you have a desktop, for a laptop you would need all kinds of converters.

My Simpletech 500 gb external hard drive has been working fine for a long time, today it said something was corrupted and then the computer has not picked up on the drive, when you turn it on the blue...

Sorry, but that sounds pretty bad. Generally when a hard drive bricks, its done. However you can try taking it in somewhere like the Geek Squad at Best Buy, and have them try and recover all your stored data from it. Good Luck!

Six month old Simpletech 500 GB ext. drive not recognized

I had the exact same problem. Solved by removing Simpletech drive from the 'flashy-box'. Unplugged drive from internals and threw the 'Pinnaferrina' case away and installed it on my motherboards extra sata plugin site (if it has one). If you open your computer case it should be labled on the Motherboeard as such. Mine has four. On the first attempt when I started the computer i Had no OS system showing on first boot-up. Shut off computer and power and shifted SATA (RED Cable) to another Sata plug on Motherboard and it booted right up and I had the drive back. You will need a longer Sata cable than the attached to the Simpletech drive and a power cable that matches the one on the Simletech . Forget looking for the drivers on the net and the Simpletech web site was no use.

I got one with the same problem. I opened up the case and hooked up the hard drive to a generic usb to sata adapter that i picked up on ebay and it works fine now if a bit clunky looking.

Maybe some bad sector in there. You should do a disk scan to check that.

Problems

One thing to remember is the some of the Simple drives requires the USB mini to conect to the drive and the TWO USB connects to be plugin to the computer.
