SOURCE: Graco Aspen 3 n 1

This is a storkcraft brand crib. Though I have been searching the internet for you to find a downloadable manual or a customer service number and have not been successful. My only suggestion is that you go into a babiesrus and either see if they have contact info for the maunfacturer's or open up a product box from this manufacturer and see ifyou can find the company phone number on that manual! Good luck! :)

SOURCE: Graco 3-in-1 crib instructions

Check this CPSC link.

Most if not all of the simplicity brand cribs have been recalled reguardless of whether they had wood or metal mattress supports.

There were 2 different recalls on the wood version but both were recalled for the drop-side issues.

This link specifically includes the Aspen 3 in 1 cribs and model #: 8740

We took ours to our local walmart last summer (we purchased it in a different state almost 8 years ago). I brought to cpsc report with me. They had not issue with the recalled information we has matching it to our crib. It did take the clerk a bit to find our crib in their system because it was older, but once she did we recieved a full refund, without a receipt.

As far as changing them to a toddler bed. When we converted ours to a toddler bed we simply removed the drop-side from the crib. The drop-side parts can be unscrewed from the side rails. Then we screwed the toddler rails to the bottom of the crib. Ours had screw holds for the toddler rails on the mattress support. If you do not have the holes for it, then you may have put the mattress support on backwards ie with the side that has the holes for the toddler bed rails on the backside of the crib.

SOURCE: I need assembly instructions for Graco Aspen 8740

The Aspen 8740 3 in 1 crib along with millions of other drop-side cribs has been recalled.

Here is the CPSP link reguarding this crib:
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07307.html

According to the CPSP information the company appears to be out of business to some degree and are not providing repair kits.

If you know where you purchased the crib, check to see what their policy is reguarding recalled baby products.

We had purchased ours at walmart almost 8 years ago and were able to return it to another store in a different state for a full refund last summer. They did not need a reciept received, they just needed the manufacturer label on the part that the mattress lies on.
Because ours was older, the customer service clerk did have to work hard to find the crip in their system, but once she did, it was not problem at all.

Your crib was recalled and company is out of business. DO NOT USE FOR YOUR NEW BABY.
This recall will be carried out by retailers since the manufacturer is no longer in business. These cribs were sold at Walmart, Target and Babies R Us stores. You should contact the store where you purchased the crib to receive a refund, store credit or replacement crib.Do not attempt to fix a recalled Simplicity crib. Please find a safe, alternative sleeping location for your baby until the crib can be replaced. It's important to note, as well, that all Simplicity drop-side cribs are already under recall due to a problem with the drop-side.https://www.cpsc.gov/en/recalls/2010/simplicity-cribs-recalled-by-retailers-mattress-support-collapse-can-cause-suffocation-and-strangulation/

Recall, Baby cribs. U.S Consumer Product Safety Comm.

About 1 Million Simplicity Cribs Recalled Due To Failures Resulting in Infant Deaths NOTE: Repair Kits that immobilize the drop-side are now available
ALSO NOTE: Consumers who have participated or have yet to respond to Simplicity’s June 2007 recall of Nursery-in-a-Box cribs are strongly urged to also participate in this recall. AND ADDITIONALLY: A subsequent recall involving Simplicity drop side cribs has been issued. WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing today a voluntary recall with Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa., of about 1 million cribs. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation of infants. CPSC is aware of two deaths in Simplicity manufactured cribs with older style hardware, including a 9-month-old child and a 6-month-old child, where the drop-side was installed upside down. CPSC is also aware of seven infant entrapments and 55 incidents in these cribs. CPSC is also investigating the death of a 1-year-old child in a Simplicity crib with newer style hardware, in which the drop-side was installed upside down. CPSC is warning parents and caregivers to check all Simplicity cribs to make sure the drop-side is installed right side up. The drop-side failures result from both the hardware and crib design, which allow consumers to unintentionally install the drop-side upside down. This, in turn, can weaken the hardware and cause the drop-side to detach from the crib. When the drop-side detaches, it creates a gap in which infants can become entrapped. CPSC is also aware of two incidents that occurred when the drop-side was correctly installed with older style hardware, though the upside down installation greatly increases the risk of failure. The recalled Simplicity crib models include: Aspen 3 in 1, Aspen 4 in 1, Nursery-in-a-Box, Crib N Changer Combo, Chelsea and Pooh 4 in 1. The recall also involves the following Simplicity cribs that used the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in1, Ultra 5 in 1, Whitney and the Trio. The recalled cribs have one of the following model numbers, which can be found on the envelope attached to the mattress support and on the label attached to the headboard: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996. The cribs, which were made in China, were sold in department stores, children’s stores and mass merchandisers nationwide from January 1998 through May 2007 for between $100 and $300. As an immediate precaution, consumers should check to see if the drop-side is installed right side up. To do this, check to see that the slightly rounded rail with the decorative groove is installed at the top and the plain rail is on the bottom. Next, consumers should make sure the drop-side is securely attached to the tracks in all four corners.

There is more info, including phone #'s ect on the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Webite about this recall.

I have the Aspen 4-in-1 model # 8755HT and am in need of the top and bottom tracks for the drop side, can I order these parts?

You can take the crib back to the store and get your money back for it and then buy one that isn't recalled. The company went out of business.

Lost the instructions on how to convert the crib to a bed

That crib has been recalled. Take it to Wal-Mart for a store credit, you won't need a receipt. The company went under so there is no fix kit for the recall.

Is there replacement parts for recalled cribs

Are you sure your crib is recalled? I found the information for the recall on the Aspen 3 in 1 crib but couldnt locate the 4 in 1. My suggestion would be to call the Simplicity for kids recall hotline at 800-858-8323 Between 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They will be able to verify the recall of your crib as well as direct you in how to receive replacement parts.

Simpilcity Crib

The vast majority of the Simplicity brand cribs have been recalled. Here is the CPSC listing that includes the 8994 model # crib:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07307.html

In case you actually have a different model #, Here is the CPSC link that includes all Simplicity brand recall notices.

Returning the crip or getting a resolution for the crib you have depends more on where you bought it than anything else. Simplicity is not fully in business any longer according to the CPSC so you cannot obtain repair kits for these cribs.

We had a Simplicity crib, one of the Aspen models. We had bought ours at Wal-Mart. They have a pretty open policy when it comes to recalls. We returned ours this past summer for a full refund. We had bought it in 2002 so it was over 7 years old at the time.

If you know where you bought it, then checked with them to see what their policy is concerning recalled products, if you're not sure where you bought it then check with the major retailers to see who might have sold your model and what their policy is.

I would definately alert you niece to the recall. fF the dropside comes off at the bottom, the baby can really get hurt.
The recall is specifically an issue with the dropsides on these cribs. You can improve the safety of the crib by imobolizing the front dropside - make it where is cannot be dropped by screwing the front side into the side rails of the crib.

I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO TURN CRIB INTO DAYBED

I suggest you checking the simplicity web site for instructions. You may also want to check your cribs model name/number to the list of recalled cribs made by Simplicity. The following link is the company website for Simplicity, http://www.simplicityforchildren.com/, the next link is the direct link to the recall list: http://www.simplicityforchildren.com/ourproducts/notice_dropside/index.htm. There are also numbers you can call which should be listed on their webpage. Good luck!
