The installed wireless card is dead....in the control panel the HP wireless assistant does nothing when you try and access it. Also, this computer has been sent back to HP already and is beyond their limited warranty repair window. I'm now using an external wireless card.
Thanks...
There are 2 ways you can work this.
- One of course is the External Wireless card you currently have
- Second, is to replace the internal card. Most laptops ahve a VERY easy to getat wireless card, and you can purchase the card on ebay for as low as 9 dollars plus shipping. Find what model laptop you have, and i'll even make a reccomenation, and show you how to access the wifi card.
Sounds like it's the port where it plugs into the system board that is dead. Unfortunatly, a new system board is very cost prohibitave. One solution I've used in the past has been to remove the card, and take a usb extention cable and place a USB card where the old card once was. it takes some soldering and gluegun knowladge, however, its the only other fix.
:( sorry to hear about the port on the board though, not much you can do to fix it.
Yes, I figured as much, its rarely worth it unless you're worried about aesthetics.

Hi,
The card has been replaced with a known good one and it still does not work. As a matter of fact, the card out of the computer worked fine in another computer (same model). Also, in the device manager it doesn't show up there as an installed on the computer. This is a known issue with this computer, as it was sent back and repaired, which it worked for about 3 months and died once again.
Thanks....kinda figured it would be something of this nature. I'm an ET by trade and familiar with microsoldering, but it's not worth my time or effort when I can use an USB wireless card.
