Pls check if the Hard drive is detected in BIOS.
If Yes, then run a test on the Hard drive.
If the test fails, the drive has to be replaced.
If the test passes, then load the BIOS defaults and check if the comp boots to windows.
If it still doesnt boot, then you will need to reinstall the OS from the OS disks.

Acer 5742g Beep at boot up

I have a problem that looks like this one.

At boot up, after the POST, each time the HDD led blinks, the laptop produces a loud "beep", and refuses to boot, as if this phenomenon prevented the HDD to be read.

If I press the power button, it stops beeping. When I release it, it starts beeping again.

If I press F8 at the beginning and then ask for a normal boot, It boots normally. Anyway, in windows, I have some strange activity, like I would continually pressing Alt+Tab. If I press Esc, it stops immediately and then all seems to work fine.

Any clue?

My m/b is Compaq BL30G and recently i had to reinstall winXP and it automatically installed audio driver (intel(r) 82801BA/BAM AC`97) but now it gives a continues "beep" sound. I even tried...

First of all open your chassis and then reconnect all the connection and remove hard drive. If you have two RAM in your PC then remove one RAM Now plug the power supply and ON the machine. If it is giving beep sound then press esc again and again untill the beep sound could be stopped. If it is continuous then remove the RAM and fix the other one then ON the machine And if it is giving beep sound the press esc again and again. Before fixing the RAM you have to clean the RAM with a soft cloth smoothly. I hope this can work for you ! and beep sound is stopped then attach your HDD then ON the PC

Set the bios password and forgotten whaat it is

You need to preform a Acer Aspire One BIOS Recovery

instructions here: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html

Summary:
You need a flash drive formatted as fat (Right click on drive. Click format. Select fat for file system. Press start)
Down load the bios 3310 from here: http://macles.blogspot.com/p/acer-aspire-one-bios.html
Extract all files. Put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file with FD suffix in the root directory of the flash drive. The files must not be in a folder. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD before proceeding. It only works with this exact filename.

Make sure laptop is off and has battery and power plugged in.

Plug in flash drive to netbook. Press Fn and Esc simultaneously, keep them pressed and press the power button. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. The power button starts blinking at this point. Press it once. The netbook will now access the files on the flash drive and initiate flashing the BIOS. After a while the power button stops blinking, and the netbook reboots by itself. Wait patiently.

If it doesn't reboot, but keeps blinking, wait at least a few minutes before turning it off, and try again.

Hello,
Did you change the HDD ?

Did you change the MOBO?

Please try to change the battery or charge the battery again or can check by your nearest technician.
If there is any courser blinking any on the screen think your LCD is ok.
The HDD is defected.

If there is no courser ,The hdd is spinning thing LCD could be damaged,

Hope this helps.

Computer is turned on, but screen is black

The Acer Aspire One has a built-in BIOS recovery routine, which can boot into a minimal BIOS environment via a special boot block to re-flash the BIOS, even if the system does not pass POST and does otherwise not boot anymore. This procedure is also known as Crisis Disk.

First format an USB flash drive with FAT. It does not need to be bootable.

Download the latest BIOS, and extract all files. Put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file with FD suffix in the root directory of the flash drive. The files must not be in a folder. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD before proceeding. It only works with this exact filename.

Turn the AA1 off, and verify both battery and AC adapter are plugged in.

Press Fn and Esc simultaneously, keep them pressed and press the power button. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. The power button starts blinking at this point. Press it once. The AA1 will now access the files on the flash drive and initiate flashing the BIOS. After a while the power button stops blinking, and the AA1 reboots by itself. Wait patiently.

If it doesn't reboot, but keeps blinking, wait at least a few minutes before turning it off, and try again.

SWITCHES ON AND OFF

UPDATE the BIOSE

1. Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file & copy the only the DOS file and Flashit.exe to USB drive.
2. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in
3. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
4. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.
5. When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.
6. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
7. During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.
8. Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service.
