Backlight keypad how to turn the backlight on in a at&t smartphone

Hi,

There is a light sensor in your Nokia E71

This light sensor senses the outside light and activates the keypad light accordingly.
When you have enough backround light the keypad light wont light up.If the background light is less then the keypad light wil light up.

You dont get the keypad light ON because the light sensor might have activated.

If in dark also you wont get the keypad light on then the fault lies with the keypad light unit.please give your mobile to the nearest authorised service centre for service.

Sounds like you have accidentally turned off the backlight. Check in settings.

For you to extend your keyboard lightening time, please do this;

1. Click on the Home button > Options > Screen/Keyboard > Scroll to Backlight Timeout increase to the highest probably 2minutes. This should should keep your backlight on for as long as 2 minutes before it goes off.

This should do.

try resetting or reformatting the phone...if that does not work it may need to be checked by a technican.

I went to Settings/Display/Backlight Timer/Display & Keypad then selected off.
You can see the keys on the keypad a lot better with the backlight off.

Could they be turned off by default? Find out how to get to the menu and check this out.

From your main menu go into "Settings". Select.
Scroll down to number 5 "Light settings. Select.
Scroll down to number 3 "Keypad light". Select.
It will probably be set to "Night time" 05:00 PM.
Use your direction pad to change it to "Any time" Save.
The keypad backlight will be on all the time.

From the manual, p. 31:
"BACKLIGHT
Set the amount of time that the display and
keypad backlights stay on, or turn off backlights
to extend battery life.

Find it: (on menu) > Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight"

You would need to go into the Setting Menu and find the Backlight or Power setting to lengthen the display and keypad backlight times. Just know that your battery life will decrease the higher the settings especially since it is a VGA screen.

Plain and simple there is something wrong with the LCD on your phone, needs to be repaired if possible
