The tines should turn counter clockwise or from the ground up toward the tiller not toward you .Owners manuals can be obtained from a local dealer on most often on line..

Which way are the tines supposed to turn while the front tire's are going forward?

Depends in the machine. The Troy Bilt tillers rotate tines in the same direction as the drive wheels.

A few manufacturers chose to "counter rotate" and the tines rotate in the opposite direction of the drive wheels.

How do I adjust the carburetor on an Ariens 5020 tiller, model #901016, with a 5 HP Tecumseh engine?

close the needle valve completely, then back it off 1.5 turns. Adjust from there for most efficient fuel usage.

Tines on tiller

-Check the locking bolt that hold the tine shaft to the main shaft. Possibly it's broken. If so replace new bolt. you should be good to go again.

Good Luck

I have a craftsman 19 in dual rotating tines, rear tine tiller. # 917-293493. In mid till, the tines quit turning. Won't shift into any gear. Wheels are locked. Any ideas?????

It is going to be a transmission issue. You can try with the engine off, turning the trans pully by hand in the opposite direction that the motor was turning it.
Some gears in the trans got crossed up and locked.

Tines stop under load

you have to get someone with a big tractor to "break" the ground up first. A tiller is just that...Not a plow

What is counter rotating tines on 62966 rear tine tiller

Not really sure what you're asking, but counter rotating tines turn the opposite direction you're traveling.

Troy Bilt Tiller tines do not engage

You likely have a clutch problem, never saw one that a simple adjustment would fix. I'd take off the tiller (there are two bolts that hold the tiller portion to the transmission, and check to make sure the clutch is sliding in and out. My hunch is either the lever is loose on the shaft or the allen-head little bolt that they use to shift the clutch has come out. Be sure to grease the clutch while you're in there.

This should be covered in your owners manual. Shame on them if they didn't mention this.

Tiller tines run wrong way.

DEpending on the machine you can take the tines off and turn it around. The only other thing to do is get into the tranny and see why it is going into reverse gear and not forward operating. This sounds like it is a trans problem so even switching the tines around will help it will not solve the problem until it is looked at
