Unfortunately, you almost always have to have the original remote control to get this display to go away. The "display" button is a specific code on that remote.
With Dish remotes, though, sometimes you can try different buttons and they will occasionally operate different functions. In TV mode, try the menu orother buttons to see if it makes a difference. My suggestion is to call a TV repair shop and see if they will allow you to borrow/buy an original remote for that TV.
First try, using the remote, pushing the display button until the display is turned off (three to four depressions on the remote display botton. Second try, unplugging the tv for at least 2 minutes then plug the tv back in. This should reset the tv if you have lost the original remote with the display bottton.
the tac switches have gone bad.this happens from age or sometimes from washing the screen of the set and moisture gets on the.. it is not a big job but it does involve soldering skills
if you have the manua for the universal remote that you are using it the button that displays current channel on the tv or the one that say jump. flashback or channel return might be bottom R corner of the remote or a small button on either side of the zero button
