I suggest you do firmware update first, then you can use another source such as a DVD plug in to the same HDMI input when the problem appear, to make sure where is the problem, if it is the on the TV, replace the main board. Part # 75012465 cost approx $300. Knowledge obtain from: Repair experience on same symptom. Parts reference: Andrews electronics, 800 289 0300.
Check to see if the tv is in the text mode of the closed captioning. If not you may need a new main signal board. Also try unplugging the set for a couple of hours to reset it.
Both the TV and the Cable box have Aspect(height/width) settings. You must confirme the setting on the cable box and then do the TV.
1. Set TV to Native, this should show image exactly as the cable box sends it.
2. change Aspect settings on the cable box until you get one that works
3. if you get a good one, then your OK. You will just need to find a setting between the 2 devices that work for you. Also, these settings may change automatically for the TV or cable box based on the channel
You have the TV connected to the cable box with an HDMI cable, I'll bet. The problem is with the cable box. If you unplug the cable box and plug it back it it will reboot and proabably work. You should connect the cable box to the TV using component cables and you won't have this problem again.
