Hi there. My mac wont boot at all. I took it in to be fixed but it only worked for 2 days. They said it could have been an SMC corruption which they reset or it could be an intermittent hardware issue with Top Case or Logic Board. What does this mean? I have tried Comm-V and power button and get a white light flicker once on front right side but that's it.
It's hard to say without more information. When you say it doesn't boot, does the screen come on at all? (the first thing that shows during a boot attempt is a gray screen). If the screen does come on, what does it show? Also what year is the macbook pro?
Hi there, thank you for replying
Sorry, hit send too soon... When it wouldn't boot nothing happened at all, no sound and no screen, only occasionally a light flickered on the front right of the body. I left it for a few weeks and then tried to switch it on again and it worked! Have now left it on and kept it plugged in, putting it to sleep mode for fear of it not starting again. I have it plugged in through a surge protection adapter. It has been working now for a few weeks and I have restarted it once in that time but other than I has been in sleep mode. It is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011). Thanks again for taking the time to respond

Hello,
Thias can also come from a dead hard drive, or a dead backlight (screen).
The best test would be to plug an external monitor to see if something shows up. If yes, that would mean that the backlight doesn't work anymore. If not, then you have an other hardware problem (motherboard, hard drive).
You can check if the hard disk is the problem by removing it. You should then see a flashing question mark and the screen on.
Keep in touch ;)

Parallels won't have caused this, Bootxchanger might have but it's not likely.
More likely is that you HD is faulty.
A largish number of white Macbooks shipped with faulty Seagate HD which, although fine to start with, started failing after about 1 year of use.
I've seen 3 in the last six months.
Thankfully the HDs in these MacBooks can be changed in just a couple of minutes, the bad news is that the data on the drive is generallycompletely destroyed.
Try starting up from your install DVD, but not do the install. After you get asked about language, at the next screen, go up to the menu bar and locate disk first aid. Run that - you may be lucky and it fixes it or you may not.

Plug the laptop into the wall with the included charger. If that does not fix the problem, check that the battery is properly installed- it should be flush with the rest of the computer and locked in place.
