There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work. Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject. If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by - Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc. If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.
Try to play the cd that you have wrote with other machine if it was able to read with other machine then your dvd is faulty.
If it cannot play with other machine, then there is a problem with the software that you use in cd writing or the dvd rom drive. Try to re-install both drivers, then play a cds.
Hi JonPM
Burning a dual layer disk requires a functionality of the drive that is not used in the burning of normal disks. But before we consider that the drive may have a mechanical problem, lets clean out all your temporary garbage. Click on this link and download Cleanup 4.5.2 (http://majorgeeks.com/CleanUp_d4895.html
Instal and run the program. Once it has finished, reboot your computer and give burning onto the DL disk another try. Let me know what happens.
If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
