I have a new Comcast triple play service which comes with a modem that also handles the phone. I installed and "terminated" a new Cat6 cable to run from the modem to my WAP (Airport Extreme) and I can not get any signal. I bought a tester at Home Depot and the cable checked ok. If I run a shorter patch cord to the same WAP it works fine (but of course I did not "make" this one. Any ideas of what I could have done wrong when installing the cable or ataching the RJ45 connectors?

Go back to Home Depot. Purchase a pre-made Ethernet cable at the approx length you need.
Not worth time/$$ troubleshooting your termination job.

Does the motorola surboard sbc6580 modem have phone connetion

Hello:

Neither the SBG900 nor the SBG6580 have a phone jack.

A cable modem with a phone jack is called an eMTA (Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter: Cable modem Wikipedia the free encyclopedia.)

Most cable companies will only have one alternative to their own equipment when it comes to eMTAs. For example, Comcast only works with the Arris 722G: Customer Owned Arris 722G FAQ Comcast Help and Support Forums, and they'll insist that it can only work if you bought it from Best Buy.

If you wanted to keep your SBG900 or SBG6580 and have VOIP phone service, look into a service like Ooma.

My internet drops when I get a phone call. I have Comcast Triple Play.

Hello,
I have heard a lot of reports from triple play customers saying either their internet is cutting out, phone or TV all the time. This could be due to bad hardware, bad cable splitters, but is most likely, saturated bandwidth. You will have to call comcast and have them troubleshoot the issue. Your IP phone modem may need to be given a less aggressive QoS setting etc.

I have Comcast triple play. After the recent lose of service all my cordless phones say Check tel line. The do not have a dail tone. How do I get them working again?

Have you rebooted your modem? If not, do so now. If that doesnt work you will have to call Comcast via cell telephone. Do you still have WWW via Comcast? If yes, you can contact them that way but you will not get much actual help. You must call them ... and suffer listen to the recordings about how easy it is to solve your troubles at www ... don't pay attention ... wait on the telephone for help.

Thanks for your question ...

Hi, I have a 2Wire 270 DSl Modem I had bought through Qwest since they are my ISP. My home is a 1500 Sft Ranch, if the modem is in the bedroom and the Mac Book is in the family room down the hall the...

If the walls in your house are made of lathe and plaster or concrete block, then the performance of WiFi through all the walls in your house will be very bad. The signal that you are receiving from your neighbor's modem is probably only going through two walls (the outside wall of their house and the outside wall of your house), while the signal from your modem is probably going through at least 4 or 5 walls.
I suggest that you do not buy a new modem, but buy a wireless access point, a spool of CAT6 cable and two Leviton RJ45 wall jacks. Run the CAT6 cable from the modem to your bedroom, install the Leviton RJ45 jacks on both ends of the cable, and then connect the wireless access point to the the jack in the bedroom and the modem to the jack near to it.
This will expand the wireless coverage in your house and allow you to buy much better wireless device than QWest would ever sell to you.
Here is a suggestion for Wireless Access Point.
You can buy the CAT6 cable and Leviton RJ45 jacks at Home Depot or Lowes.

I have Comcast bundle service for my home that includes tv, phone and internet which is digital. Can I use the Sensaphone 400 with this digital system?

This model may not be used on a digital system. It can be used on a standard phone line only, only engineered to handle standard phone line with pulse or tone dialing. I hope this helps!

PCX2600 cable modem Comcast problems

Hi,
Thanks.
If you buy the new modem, make sure that you can return it if that's not the problem. Also, explain to Comcast what the problem is and that it happens on both computers. It could be a poor connection on the cable wire that goes into your home.

I had a similar problem and my DSL and Verizon found that the squirrels found my telephone wire rather tasty and ate through most of it..thus causing the bad connection.

Good Luck,
Hank

Cannot set up Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem

This usually means something is not correct with your incoming signal. If your cable wire into the modem is being run off an amplifier in the wall this could be effecting your service. If the signal is too strong the modem won't be able to communicate for internet.

You could check the incoming wire to see if it is running off an amplifier. If it is you would need to run a new line that is not on the amplifier. I would recommend comcast coming out to check the signal frequency and make the necessary adjustments.

Browser and email continuously won't load

I would have to say this is a problem with Comcast, call them and ask for a line test, tell them that you are having this problem on multiple computers, and you have even tried connecting directly to the modem. If they can run a test on the line, hopefully that will shed some light on the issue.

Often times with Cable/Phone companies, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, be instant that they check, at the very least they can check connection to your modem from their end.

Arimex comcast router won't talk to belkin wireless g plus mimo router

Comcast has a little known "trick" that they use when setting up users. Here's how it works:

When Comcast first comes to setup your new cable modem service, they insist on connecting it to your computer and "testing" it. Most people think nothing of it, and that it's good customer service ...truth be told, what they are doing is attaching your computer's MAC address to that cable modem, so that you cannot create a wireless network. This is because they want you to pay them $150 to do this for you.

In this situation, since the modem is a modem/wireless router in one, my guess is that the MAC address on your machine now does not match the MAC address on the new router, which is what Comcast has stored in their database(s).

Try this: on your computer (while connected to the modem), perform a release on your IP address (start, run, cmd, then type "ipconfig /release"). Disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer. Turn computer off completely. Hold down the reset button on the cable modem until it performs a reset. Once it's back up and running, boot up your computer with the cable back in the ethernet port.

The cable modem should assign a new address to your computer. However, that may or may not work ...this is an easy workaround with a Linksys router, but not necessarily with the all-in-one devices.

Worst case scenario: contact Comcast and notify them that the new modem is not recognizing your computer's MAC address and that it needs to be updated in their system. They will scan your computer (through the telnet interface on your modem) and get your computer's MAC address, then (hopefully) make the necessary changes on their end.

After that, everything should work flawlessly. If not, insist on a Comcast tech to "fix" the service that you are paying for.

Good luck - hope this helps :)
