I have been on a trip to Machupicchu taking lots of pictures. Suddenly all the pictures turned out just black. The camera continued to work as usually, so I didn't even notice until some time later when I wanted to check some of the pictures. I changed the memory card, same result.
I don't know if I did something wrong (pressed a button or something) or if the camera just "died".
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Ellen
Ellen,
When shooting with the D100 do you have the dial on top of camera set to 'Auto'? If so, then most likely you have some how adjusted to the exposure compensation, so your photos are underexposing.
To reset your camera to the factory default settings:
Hold down the bracket and flash button for two
seconds.
These are the buttons marked with a green dot
Take a test photo and see if that works.
Is the photo half black on the preview screen on the back of the camera and do you encounter the same problem when the image is on your computer?
I just thought of a few other things:
1) On the Nikon D100 the Dial on top labled MASP. For Automatic Mode the dial should be turned to 'P', not 'A'
2) If indeed you have the dial turned to P; Is the flash firing? If so, your camera shutter current is failing. The only solution is to take it to an authorized Nikon Repair Center
3) If your dial was set to A and the flash is firing, then what you are experiencing is common. Set it to P and the problem should go away.

Thanks a lot. I did reset the camera to the factory default settings with the result that now only half of the picture is black -(the upper half)?
The flash works with in all functions (MASP), Pictures are also half black on my computer. So I guess I will have to take the camera to a repair center.
Thanks a lot for your help
Ellen
