Reinstall Windows (you can find personal files in the windows.old folder, if you don't delete the old files).

You might want to update to the newest video drivers as well, once you've got Windows installed.

I think you need to reload windows with a operating system disk. Most times the Factory Recovery discs don't work.

Get a windows operating system disk and just reload windows. The disk must match the Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker on the bottom of her laptop. In other words, don't use a Windows XP Home operating system disk if the COA sticker says Windows XP Professional or you'll never be able to activate windows.

The clicking is coming from the hard disk - it has died - so the BIOS is signalling that the OS is missing - cursor flashing in the top left corner.
Replace the hard disk and reinstall Windows.

Then your system configuration and the Operating System are not supporting each other.
OR
If you can arrange one more monitor, try connecting it and see whether even then it goes blank. If not then the previous monitor has some problem.

if you power ON and your screen goes blank then there may 3 reasons:

1. you have no operating system installed/you need bios.
2. your monitor is either not connected or is not working.
3. your operating system is not recognising your monitor or need correct drivers installed.

If display issue: connect an external monitor to see if any change.

Could be spyware - boot in Safe Mode (F8) - download, install and run SpyBot (spybot.com).

that message means that windows 2000 professional/98 is not installed which means you have a blank computer you need to put the disk that came with it in and install the OS or purchase one but i'll warn you now those disk are not cheap around a couple hundred bucks

uninstall ALL video drivers reboot computer should reboot with standard windows video drivers does the screen still play up if so you may have faulty video card.let me know please

When you format something you WILL lose all of the data that was there. I would also recomend upgradeing to XP, 2000, or NT. You may need to reinstall the OS. If you need instructions ask me and I can help.
