You posted this question under the iPod shuffle, so understand that these instructions are only good for the iPod shuffle:

Here is a link to your manual:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodshuffleUserGuide.pdf

You will notice on. p18, that iTunes has an icon bar associated with the iPod shuffle - the second icon looks like a level indicator - press this button and change the bass, treble, etc.

Good luck!

I have a iPod shuffle 2nd gen. But haven't used for a long time. Now its not switching on. What to do?? :(

Batteries--especially rechargeable ones--do not hold their charge forever. The batteries power naturally drains, even if you don't use them. Just recharge your ipod, and it should work fine.

Ipod shuffle 2nd gen problem

Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with iPod shuffle. Try
these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t
help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
Reset iPod shuffle by turning it off, waiting five seconds, and then turning it back on
again.
Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod shuffle in iTunes.
Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.

If the status light blinks orange when you press a button, the iPod shuffle buttons are
disabled. Press and hold Play/Pause (’) for about three seconds, until the status light
blinks green.
Connect iPod shuffle to a high-power USB port on your computer. Your iPod shuffle
battery may need to be recharged.
Turn iPod shuffle off, wait five seconds, and then turn it on again.
You may need to restore iPod shuffle software

Getting hot - too hot to touch = bad - player needs to be replaced

Does anyone think if the Equalizer presets of iPod sufficient?

Hrm..... This is a tough issue. I have experienced this as well. I can't really solve the problem, I can only share what I have done personally to deal with this. Hope this helps. I have settled on: 1. Leave the iPod's EQ on default and don't change it. 2. Change certain songs that must have EQ help individually. 3. Set the maximum volume setting on the iPod to the highest setting. 4. Assess where and how I listen to music on my iPod and plan to get headphones that work with my listening style. 5. Get better headphones. They don't have to be expensive to produce good sound quality. 6. If you connect it to a speaker dock or a stereo system use it's built in EQ/DSP.
