Rainbow stripes and color changing gradient box

I was about to put my computer on my bed but it fell onto my foot-board and the screen is all whacky now. There is a gradient box that changes colors with white and dark grey and black horizontal stripes and rainbow vertical stripes.

Since this is a problem that obviously occured because the laptop fell and the LCD got damaged I suggest you take it to a repair shop, if it can even be repaired.

SOURCE: black screen with horizontal green lines

Hello yoyoxide.

from my experience can be something related with the video card. I recommend you the followig (Hardware diagnostics):

-Look for one of the discs that came with your computer, it should say (Drivers & utilities).
-Boot from the CD. If you don't know how to do it do the following:
1.Insert the Drivers&Utilities Disk.
2.Restart teh computer.
3. When you get the Dell logo, press F12
4.Select Boot from CD/CDRW-DVD (something like that).
-You will get a prompt to run the diagnosics.
-Just follow the wizard
-I recommend you to run diagnostics for everything.
-You will see if you have any problems with your hardware.

It seems that you have a pretty new laptop, so probably it's under warranty.

Reset the video card, and if that doesn't work it sounds like the card is dying. How old is the card?

Check the cables. It might be overly simplistic, but if your monitor is connected via a serial cable, one of the pins might be bent or missing. This can cause slight display problems, including a vertical line. If you are using a USB, try another cable and see if the problem persists. Update your video card driver. Some discrete cards have an update feature in the properties window for the device. Right-click on your video card in the programs list, and select "Properties." The update will be a button under the "Drivers" tab if your device is so equipped. If not, visit the manufacturer's website and search for the most current driver for your model number.
Updated video drivers could solve the problem. Place a box fan directly behind your computers intake vent for extra cooling. Sometimes if there are system problems, your components can run too hot. If cooling the computer takes away the line, you know have you an overheating problem, not a monitor problem. You might try cleaning the internals with canned air. Remove the housing, and thoroughly blow any dust, hair or carpet fiber away from the fan and off the mother board. While you're there, you can check to see if there are any obvious loose connections. Connect the monitor to another computer if you have one available. This is probably the most definitive test of your monitor's health. If you have a line when the monitor is connected to a different machine, it's likely time for a new monitor. As frustrating as it sounds, taking apart one of today's monitors in an attempt to repair it is more expensive than buying a replacement. If you don't have another computer available, try shutting down the computer but leave the power on to the monitor. Using the buttons on the monitor bezel (if you have them), call up the settings. If the line appears in the menu just as it did in the video from your computer, then you definitely have a monitor problem. Replacement is probably in order

Vertical rainbow stripes on my GB color

I would say that the screen is causing the lines in a gameboy colour the lines are not the same like it would be in an orginal gameboy the one with the four batteries. Lines in gameboy color are the screen issues then the whole screen would have to be replaced on the GBC then.

Rainbow stripes and color changing box

If the screen is damaged, then no there nothing you can do without replacing the screen BUT then is it really damaged? I would try and see if a normal image is displayed on an external display via the laptops VGA port and cable. If good than it is most likely the screen BUT I would look into (By pulling the screen covers off, etc to see if all cables from the System board to the screen is connected properly, if they are and also same image is on the external screen then the graphics chip is the culprit...depends on how hard and at what angle etc did the Laptop hit the foot-board.

I cannot use fill colour for shapes, text boxes etc on either Word or Publisher -Office 2007 I click on fill colour but shape remains blank - a series of dots do appear around the shape.

Apply a different shape fill You can fill a selected shape (such as data markers, titles, data labels, or a legend) with a solid color, gradient, picture, or texture. You cannot use shape fill to format lines in a chart (such as gridlines, axes, trendlines, or error bars).

On a chart, click the chart element that you want to change, or do the following to select it from a list of chart elements:
  1. Click a chart. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.
  2. On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click the arrow next to the Chart Elements box, and then click the chart element that you want to use.
On the Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click Shape Fill

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To use a different fill color, under Theme Colors or Standard Colors, click the color that you want to use. Tip Before you apply a different color, you can quickly preview how that color affects the chart. When you point to colors that you may want to use, the selected chart element will be displayed in that color on the chart.
    • To remove the color from the selected chart element, click No Fill.
    • To use a fill color that is not available under Theme Colors or Standard Colors, click More Fill Colors. In the Colors dialog box, specify the color that you want to use on the Standard or Custom tab, and then click OK. Custom fill colors that you create are added under Recent Colors so that you can use them again.
    • To fill the shape with a picture, click Picture. In the Insert Picture dialog box, click the picture that you want to use, and then click Insert.
    • To use a gradient effect for the selected fill color, click Gradient, and then under Variations, click the gradient style that you want to use. For additional gradient styles, click More Gradients, and then in the Fill category, click the gradient options that you want to use.
    • To use a texture fill, click Texture, and then click the texture that you want to use.
Tip If you don't like the change that you made, you can undo it immediately. On the Quick Access Toolbar, click Undo default.aspx?assetid=za101819851033, or press CTRL+Z.

Sony Trinitron Color Rainbow

Usually when a tv is dropped the phospher screen inside the picture tube will detatch making the rainbow color This cannot be fixed as it requires changing the picture tube. Only other thing is demagnatize it with a demagnitizing coil (used by tv techs) but not likely to fix it since it was dropped. You have a bad picture tube.
