With the symptoms you
have, especially with that pop, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier
diode.
The diode is a fairly cheap & easy fix.

behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is

Yes, the light and turntable work fine as does the timer display. The first time we noticed it wasn't heating, there were no odd noises. The next time we tried it however, it made a loud buzzing noise and a low sounding pop so we haven't messed with it again. The model # is 665-6861 1891 (Kenmore) 1000 watt.

What is the model number?
These answers will help me judge whether it\'s in the high voltage
section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section
(door switch or control board relay or connection).
