Your flat wire / ribbon cable that goes from the LCD display to the main PCB is fractured and split, thus it looses signal and as in your case the split has worsened and you have lost power to the backlight also, which comes from this very cable.
You will need to replace it and it may not come as just the cable but the entire LCD panel.
This is a common fault on many camera's of different makes.

you have 2 differnet problems. white screen is a bad ribbon cable inside unit.. eject r is a bad tape transport. something broke inside or the tape transport is outta alignment.

I have a Sam sung digital camcorder vp - d305i.
I have used the cam 3 times and decided to use it for once and now have found no image on the Lcd and view finder but it seems to record the sound only.
What could it be???

hi there macker2. i have resolved the problem myself and have E-mailed my instructions to three others to date.. the manual can be downloaded but does not give detailed instructions as to how to take apart or betterstill. to put back together!!! if you need instructions to do this yourself i will be happy to send.. samsung vp-d351. lcd screen was bright white at first then suddenly went off (no picture). sound and everything else ok. can anybody help?

Its probably not the chips that is defective Jim.. these camcorders use those really small pana caps there called and they leak and go bad and sometimes NO NO most of the time cause the PCB to oxide and melts the pcb traces. If when you try to unsolder these surface mounted caps your gonna get a really acid type smaell thats bad smelling and bad for you too. if thats the case its bad.
