are you running vista or xp

You have to open it up and find a jumper to reset the password on the board. I recommend to go to a professional, working on a laptop is tendious.

Remove the cmos battery from the motherboard, small round, for about 5 seconds. Replace & reboot. This will clear passwords. Hope this helps.

The power on password is stored on an EEPROM chip and removing the BIOS/CMOS battery won't help.
You need to read the EEPROM chip to get the password.
