TV will not turn on, I can hear a relay and high pitch buzzing as it attempts to power on. Power/standby light flashes green for ~45 seconds, then transitions to a long series of 5 red pulses, pause, 5 red pulses, etc, finally ending in solid red.
Its small board with few connectors and easy to replace.
You can buy required part from Part Store. You may see image of ballast supply there.
I'm suggesting ballast supply upon feedback of high pitch buzzing. Lamp can be bad too and after 2500 hours service TV will ask for new lamp.
Ballast supply can not just blow lamp quickly. It is power source of Lamp tom produce light for projection.
usually Lamp has 2500 or 3000 hours life hours, its light will become low after such hours and you will notice dark picture.
Please install new ballast supply along with new Lamp. TV will work fine.
Thats great!

I'm not familiar with TV repair, but am comfortable working on electronics if it's as simple as replacing a board and doesn't require sodering. I've fixed many issues with computer - mother board, hard drive, etc. Please advise
Is there somewhere online to find instrructions on replacement? If not can you tell me location of ballast and how to open up tev? Thanks.
Welcomejee, I also found some other links on line that suggested changing lamp may also fix this problem. Do you agree?
Welcomejee, I replaced ballast supply and the 5 blinks error code stopped flashing and the lamp replacement light came on. I put the old ballast supply back in and lamp replacement light blinks, and 5 blink error code disappeared. I removed the old lamp (a shattered bulb dangling from the filament) and ordered a new one. Is there anyway to know if the old lamp had just run its course or if there was in fact something faulty with the ballast supply that caused the lamp to blow? I just don't want to stick the new lamp in and have it immediately blow. TV is 4 years old with minimal use for the last year, and I'm unsure of hours on the bulb. Any advice is welcomed.
Welcomejee. TV now seems to work fine with new lamp and old ballast. Thanks for your guidance.
i also have the same problem as this it turns on then after a few seconds switches to stand by the tv is 2 years old and a 50". but if the bulb needs replacing where is the easiest and quickest place for me to get one for the tv.
Same problem with the Sony WEGA HDTV. It's only 4 years old. Let me know if you figure out the solution to the problem.
