Sony KV-27S46 tv has no picture, no sound, 4 flash diagnostic.

CRTN,
You ended our chat prematurely last week. All I want from you is to let me know if I cleared code 4 correctly for my TV and/or what part(s) I need to replace since you have access to the Sony data base. That is the main reason I contacted you in the 1st place. The clearing instructions you sent me was not for a KV-27S46 since it depicted a different vert out IC. Mine uses IC541 for vert out which I have replaced. Maybe the clear procedure is different also. If you do not contact me, you will get a bad review and my credit card company will refuse payment.

My anger is not with you but with your system. It is not user friendly. I have been trying several times a day to reach you since Monday. The only response I got was from ABRSVCS Dan who suggested I pay another $20 to get on the chat line with him and get a refund from FixYa. NO way, man. When I try to log on to my account your system sends me to no man's land where it asks for my product etc. The only way I was able to reach you was responding to your personal advertisement, even then I had to use another email address. Sorry for the misunderstanding - I was just getting frustrated. Do you have a phone number at Sony?

    Thanks,

    Larry

  • larry11143 Jan 19, 2009

I truly believe we just had a misunderstanding. The full truth is I accidently closed our chat when I attempted to close the email when you tried to send me the Sony diagnostic clearing procedure (remember - I could not open it so you sent it over the chat line). I learned yesterday that the "my profile" is in small print in the upper right hand corner of the page that my email sends me to when I tried to contact you. So I had a pilot error and a navigation problem but it looked like you had pulled the plug - sorry.

I just ordered the D606 (ECG5466) for under $3.00 locally, but it will take over 2 weeks for it to arrive. (Sony would be faster for the OEM part you recommended but wanted $25 plus shipping and they already have my $32 for the IC541). Since this is such a long wait are you aware of any other part which should be checked or replaced? Or should I just let you know in 2 weeks if this fix does not solve my problem? Or if you just want to get rid of me would you tell me how to access the Sony database directly? Any of the 3 choses would result in me closing out the account and giving you an excellent rating, partly because of all the trouble I have given you.

    Thanks, Larry

  • larry11143 Jan 19, 2009

    Ok, that would be great.

    Thanks,

I now have replaced both parts (first IC541, then D606) as recommended. No change. Still getting 4 blinks. What next, anybody?

    CRTN?

I have not checked D617. Before I tear down the tv again, is there something you want me to do before I check D617? The tv is fully assembled now.

There is a click when I attempt to turn on the tv. A few seconds later a similar click occurs. Sounds like the relay works but drops out during auto shutdown.

  • larry11143 Feb 27, 2009

I went ahead and tried to check D617. I do not see how I can check it with it in the circuit since its internal diodes are in parallel. To do that, I have to remove an electrolytic cap to gain access to the screw holding the diode to the heat sink. The diode is strickly for the 9.0V source. I do not see how losing the 9.0V source would cause loss of vertical since it does feed IC541. Are you sure you need me to remove D617? Of course if this diode could cause auto shut off I guess I need to check it.

  • larry11143 Feb 27, 2009

Okay, I guess you had your reasons so I removed D617 and checked it. It tested good with my multimeter's diode tester. By the way, the electrolytic cap (C630, 100uf, 160V) tested good also. I have not re-installed either part yet.

  • larry11143 Mar 02, 2009

No problem. I realize you cannot sit in front of the tube all of the time. Maybe it is time to open up a chat. Your call.

I will check R632 ASAP. But how can I check IC601 since I have auto shut off 2 or 3 seconds after I press on/off?

I have an autotransformer. I used it in the past to fix an older model Sony TV. Does Sony have a procedure whereby I can lower the ac power to the tv to a lower voltage (55v ac I think it was) so I can make measurements without the tv shutting down?

    Larry

  • larry11143 Mar 02, 2009

R632 looks good. It measured 0.2 ohms in the circuit. Spec is 0.1 ohm.

Did you get my clarification request dated March 03? I just sent my email to me for clarification from me! This is a big step beyond talking to myself which I admit I am doing with this TV. I just meant to send a comment, not a clarification notice.

    Larry

  • larry11143 Mar 03, 2009

Yesterday you asked if I had checked IC601. I asked how to check since tv shuts down so fast. Did you mean for me to replace it?

  • larry11143 Mar 04, 2009

Just 4 blinks the last time the set was together. Tomorrow I will try reassembling it to see how far the power makes it thru the power supply as you suggested.

  • larry11143 Mar 04, 2009

    CTRN

The output from the bridge rectifier (D605) at R632 is 1.5v dc / 72v dc relative to chassis ground so power is getting through.

Remember you asked me to check IC601 2 days ago? The input should be 17v and the output should be 152v relative to the common tie point. The input (pin 4) is 10v / 13v (tv off / tv on). The output (pin3) is 0v / 166v. Your thoughts please.

    Larry

    .

What are your thoughts on this?

  • larry11143 Mar 04, 2009

Forgot to mention that the main dc source (should be 135v) oscillates so fast that I cannot get a reading with my Fluke multimeter.

Sometimes I have been receiving messages from FixYa under my old email account [email protected] saying I have a new comment which I assume is from you. But when I go to "my profile" under that account or even my new one no new message is posted.

Please be sure to use only my new email [email protected]. When a message comes to that address you always have a new comment posted when I go to "my profile".

This would explain why you are repeating some questions which I have already answered. Example: are you still getting just 4 blinks. (The answer is Yes.)

Also, I think you will find several questions I have asked you which you have not responded to either.

    Larry

  • larry11143 Mar 05, 2009

You probably have not had a chance to view my last message so I will repeat. But you are still using my old email account [email protected] As before I cannot view your message. You MUST use email account [email protected] or I will never see your message. My member name is larry11143 under both email accounts.

Is there someone at Sony who could advise us if I need to replace IC601 when the output is a little too high?

  • larry11143 Mar 09, 2009

    CTRN

You asked me to check IC601 and I made some measurements. Please run these measurements by your Sony rep. Remember the output is 166v, it should be 152v. The part is only $8, but I need to know if it could cause a 4 flash diagnostic before I order it.

    CTRN,

I made some more component checks while I was waiting. Since IC541 was replaced and can cause a 4 flash diagnostic, I checked the circuit around it. It appears D541, C541, and R549 are good. I also checked the 2 power supply sources which feed IC541. It also looks like C542, C562, C564, D561,D562, R561,R562, and T504 are good. Should I check the components around D606 (which was replaced) next or do you have a better idea? I am not quite ready to bypass the RY602 power relay yet.

You Can Try Checking While Trying To Power On For The Brief Second It Tries To Turn On Just To See If Power Is Making It Through.

I have sony kv-32s25 powers on but no picture i do have sound and the stand by light is flashing and idea's

The key here is the standby light flashing. It should be flashing in a repeated count of flashes with a pause inbetween. Count the blinks and report that number here. This is a diagnostic code indicating the circuit that is having a problem. Armed with that info, we should be able to give you an idea of the problem and its solution.

Thanks,
Dan

Power clicks on and red power light flashes but no picture

The problem might come from the fuse inside was blow out. if you have a multimeter then open the rear cover. The fuse lays near the power cord. Take it out and use Ohm meter to check it connectivity. If it is no connectivity meaning the fuse was blow out. Replace a new one with the same value (Ampere and Voltage). If it does have connectivity, the problem needs technician to find out as it relates to many parts on the circuit board.

Sony-27S46 TV standby light flashes 4 times

Can you please confirm the model number? The category is for KV-27S42 and you state in the title you have KV-27S46. Also, when getting the 4 blink code, do you see a horizontal line on the screen or nothing at all? The 4 blinks means no vertical sweep. This can be a bad vertical IC (what you changed already) or no power to the IC or even a bad capacitor in the same circuit. If you know how, check the supply voltage to the IC. If not present, we need to trace the supply line for that IC. I will need to consult the service manual to provide additional details. Please confirm the model so I get the correct part numbers etc.

Thanks,
Dan

Sony tv wont turn on, standby light just flashes

check for an open resistor on the power supply, it is actually a fusible resistor, (white) if open, then check the converter, some sets have two separate and some have it as one. it will be on a heat sink on the power supply. if shorted then check for a shorted horizontal output transistor and repair cold solder joints on the horizintal drive transformer which is the real cause of this problem

Please count the blinks and post that number. That is an internal diagnostic code that will indicate the problem circuit. From that I can give you probable repair parts and costs.

Can't get the Video 1 symbol off of my TV.

There is a button on the remote labeled display that must be hit to remove the on screen display. You can use any Sony TV remote so you may want to check out GoodWill for a used one. Sony also has a universal available but it may be hard to find, maybe Radio Shack. There is no other way of turning off the OSD.

For the last week my TV has been going to a black screen for 10 seconds or so then the picture returns. It has been continual. Last night it stopped going to black screen, but now the standby light flashes 5 consecutive times and the color went haywire. A lot of red and everything that is suppose to be black is green.

I did a soft and hard reset with no success. What's wrong and is it worth fixing? Bought new in November 2002.
