Sometimes it's not scratches, but just marks on the phone. Have you tried cleaning it?

Sorry, it posted before I was done. I am not sure if you are familiar with metal polishing precious metals, but it's similar. Of course it all depends on the depth of the scratches. Google cerium oxide and glass polishing ..

Once you have cerium oxide, you will find numerous applications.. It is my understanding that this is what pros use to polish glass on vehicles and anything made of glass. I used it on my iPhones and glass tables with success. Also used jewelers rogue then cerium for deeper scratches.

Is the iPhone 5 scratch easily?

Yes it is!
Apple replaced the backplate material from corning glass to anodized aluminum. Aluminum is a softermaterial than glass, so this means that everytime the iPhone falls on the floorit scratches. People complain that their new iPhone already looks like its warnout and old. I guess it gives it a vintage look&feel...

I just got the iPhone 5 two days ago and I already notice scratches on the back side. Why is this?

There have been numerous complaints about how easily the iPhone 5 scratches. I also read that the black iPhone is more prone to scratches, possibly because it's easier to see the scratches on it. The reason for this is because of the new aluminum material used, which apparently doesn't do well against scratches. I'm sure Apple will fix this problem as more complaints are coming in.

Is iPhone 5 durable considering the fact that it scratches easily?

Yes it is! Iphone 5 beats Samsung Galaxy in a drop test. The screen doesn't crack easily (while the aluminum back is scratched easily). And it seems that iPhone 5 can be repaired more easily that iPhone4.
