SOURCE: Magic Chef Gas Oven - Heats up slowly and has intermittent gas smell

STOP USING THE OVEN IMMEDIATELY!!! You are not getting enough air to the burners to burn all the fuel. Not only will you have an explosion hazard, you'll have a carbon monoxide hazard either of which will KILL YOU. Read all of the info below before you begin.

You need to clean all the burners and inlets thoroughly. You probably used the oven for a lot of broiling of meats or it is quite old. The deposits are clogging the tubes which gauge the amount of air entering the burners or the burner holes themselves. The burner tubes are generally removable by removing one screw and giggling the units clear. Before taking anything apart, note carefully the positions of any mix plates and scribe small marks between the two surfaces. Use a heavy duty cleaner or WD-40 to loosen grime. Don't use abrasives like Comet. Then wash in mild detergent with hot water and dry. Be sure all burner openings are clear. After assembly, note the color of the flames. They should be about 90% blue along their length from the burner head. If they are not, you didn't finish the job cleanly or you have another problem. If the burners are old, rusty or have irregularly shaped flame holes, replace them.

SOURCE: oven does not heat up

I had the same problem with my magic cheff oven. I had to set the temp at 400 - 500 degrees to get to get an actual oven temp of about 250 degrees. The oven temp sensor checked ok with an ohm meter. Should be around 1100 ohms at room temp. I work in the electronics industry and know capacitors go out of range and dry out with heat and over time so I replaced the 3 or 4 electrolitic capacitors on the timer board. Cost me about $6.00 at Radio Shack and now my oven temp is right on the money. I realize not everyone may want to do this but it worked for me. Better than the $200.00 for a new oven timer control board. I have also found a company's website that fixes these boards for about $89.00 ApplianceTimers.com

SOURCE: oven stopped working

No, that is a top burner valve. Most likely the igniter is bad, part # 12400035. The only way to test it is with an ammeter; it must draw a minimum of 3.3 amps to cause the valve to open. Oven valve part # 7501P133-60. These go bad as well, but not nearly as often. If you are going to take a risk, try the igniter first. Available for $40 at www.timerking.com and elsewhere. Hope this helps!

Magic Chef Gas Ovens

If your Magic Chef gas oven doesn't light, most likely the oven igniter (rectangle style) is the problem. The igniter may glow and appear to be working, but doesn't get get hot enough to open the oven bake valve. I recommend replacing the igniter first.

Crank down and flip models require tweeking. have you adjusted the regulator accordingly?
You must remove and flip the regulator nut to get the gas pressure from 3.5 to 10.
