Well it might be that your asking too much from your laptops graphics card. My solution would be installing a later fersion of direct x. Also some other hot keys to try are: ctrl + shift + esc. And : alt + tab or f4. Hope this helps.

After installing Medieval 2 Total War Gold, when i boot the game up i get an error message saying an unspecified error has occurred and the game will now quit. how can i fix this issue

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I own all of the Total War series and they are very great games. I will try to get you up and running so you can enjoy that classic!

I have heard of this error coming up due to corrupt game files. Meaning, you play a campaign and after 50 turns a certain saved game will be corrupted. The solution is to delete the game file, which would cause you to lose that play time but it will fix the error.

If you have not even started playing, then most likely there was an error during installation of the game. Try uninstalling the game, reboot the computer then reinstall the game.

Another possible issue is that your machine does not meet the system requirements to play the game, thus causing it to crash. Check and make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

Also, make sure your computer has updated drivers for the graphics card.

Lastly, if none of the above helps you, I would recommend contacting the support team for the game.

I was told press F2 simultaneously on startup, nothing happened

You need not to press F2 or tab or escape unless you need to do so. If your system is ok, it'll automatically boot up, but if there's boot up problem with your system, then that's different. Thanks for using FixYa.

Dvd drive unable to read empire total war disc

I have the same problem. Some DVD drives seem to have a problem with the protection on the Empire disc (and other games). Might have to do with this Securom/Windows thing.

But here is my solution
1. Install Steam
2. Make Steam install the game from the disc, using its local EXE.
i.e. run:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Starting Steam.exe from your HDD rather than the setup.exe from the DVD bypasses this disc protection issue.

Alternatively, you can enter the CD-KEY in Steam and download the game from the Net.

Either way, Steam saved the day although everyone was complaining about using it for Empire

I cant launch any computer games like war3 and cs 1.6

If I knew your OS, I could be more specific.
Do you have all of the video card drivers? Do you have updates for DirectX from Microsoft?
have you defragmented your computer? if not do so and that may solve the problem. How much disk space is left on the "C" drive? At least 15%?
Any less and it will crash. How much is running in the back ground? Everything you install is actually running but you do not see it. Use CRTL/ALT/Delete and then go to the tab that says startup. If there is more than 5 or so, its slowing the computer down and also, while there, click on the peeformance tab and see if the processor is running maxxed out.
