Take a flash light and see if you can see the desktop at all. If you cannot see it, try hooking it up to another monitor and see if that works. If there is no luck then your monitor has gone bad

The problem is with the lcd screen. Hp has used the cheapest lid switches available in the market.
Therefore it offers a two yr extended warranty to all its customers. refer to the hp website or call its helpline

You can update graphics driver, if that does not fix the issue check the display on external monitor. If the external monitor works fine you can isolate checking the display in BIOS Setup scree (Restart your computer and keep tapping F10 to getinto BIOS). If the same issue in BIOS, you may have to change display of the unit.

Maybe the OS is corrupted, try to reinstall the OS

the best way to ensure the computer boots up is to connect it to an external computer through the vga port.

If there is image, the problem is a bronken screen, if not, it is a motherboard malfunction.

The sollution for both? Talking to HP or your vendor to replace the notebook.

As for data recovery, I wouldn't advise to remove the hard drive since vendors or HP consider it warranty violation

You could try getting a fan for the laptop. I would recommend calling hp and getting an extended warranty (you can still do this even if your laptop is out of warrenty). I think this might be a problem with the motherboard. Lots of people have been having problems with there tx1220us over heating and burning parts up. the next step is your computer will quit booting which is where the warranty will kick in. it will save you about 150 to 250 dollars.
