If your tv has line out jacks, run cables to the "play" jacks in the back of the 300. If your running satelite, run the sound cables to the player instead of the tv. If your running a vcr player seperate, you can run those sound cable to the back ot the 300. The video cable would go straight to the tv.

Hope this helps.

How to use a surround sound with tv not just dvd

If you have cable/FiOS TV/SATV,than you will have to connect a digital(fiber optic SPIDF or RCA type) form the set-top box to the suuround-sound system to get TRUE surround sound.I haven't come across a TV with this ouput, but not sure if some do.(If you use RCA analog audio cords from the ouput of theTV itself to an input of the sound system it will work, but it will be a glorified stereo sound, not true surround sound.

Need to know what channel to turn the tv to

HMMM. DVDs connect to Video, not channels.
Your direct TV will be connected to Video In.
I recommend connecting the DVD with Component or HDMI for best results.
You select the DVD with 'Video' or 'Source' on your TV remote.

Akai DHT300

Hi blossomp, does it play up on other DVD disc...playing intermitently? If it does, then the dvd loader assembly needs servicing. Could be dirt and smudge accumulated on the tiny gears not forgetting the Collimating lense. cotton bud and glass cleaner will do the tricks on your lense...don't rub too much. disassembly of the dvd loader is easier than on DVD ROM of your PC.
Good Luck.

Akai DHT300 screen rolling

The picture is rolling because there is no sync signal in the composite output. Are you using the RCA jack or the S-video output? Is there another small TV you could hook up for a test to see if the problem appears there? If it does, then the Akai has the issue and needs to be examined further. If not, the TV input may have an issue. You didn't say what the TV is but there is the possibility the video input is looking for external sync from the DVD but that's a bit of a stretch. Can you feed a different source into the video input of the TV to see if you get the same result? Hope this helps.
