Problem signing into Yahoo Messenger.

try uninstalling yahoo, restart your PC, and download the newest version available. restart again, and then try to login.

1. First, ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet.
2. Confirm that your password is not hacked by loging into your yahoo email account with the same user ID that your using to login to the yahoo messenger, by going to http://mail.yahoo.com.
3. If you are able to log into your email account, your ID is safe.
4. Try to kill yahoo messenger on your system using "Task Manager"
5. To open Task Manager, right click on your computer's task bar at the bottom and click on "Task Manager".
6. Next, click on the "Process" tab in Task Manager, select "YahooMessenger.exe" and click on "End Process" button.
7. If you cannot find "YahooMessenger.exe", then select "Ymsgr_tray.exe" and click on "end process".
8. Now start your yahoo messenger again and try to login. You should be able to login succesfully.

9. If your Internet connection is fine and you have followed the above-mentioned process and still cannot login to yahoo messenger, your system's fire wall is probably obstructing yahoo messenger to access internet.
10. Change the necessary settings on your firewall to leverage access to yahoo messenger.

My own advice is:-

1) Start your troubleshooting with a clean browser
Download and run CCleaner daily - to keep your browsers fully operational

Use the settings as downloaded - Click on the 'Run Cleaner' tab until '0 bytes removed'

2) Shutdown computer - power off the router for one minute - restart computer

3) Have more than one browser available for trouble shooting. Keep browsers up to date to incorporate all the patches - I run Firefox, Google Chrome and IE. Keep one browser clear of add-ons and plug-ins.
Always have the browser you are using designated as default - even if you only have one

4) Make sure Yahoo toolbar is up to date if you have it

5) Sign in here to reset cookies

6) If you have a Yahoo email address:- drop the '@Yahoo.com' from your username to sign in

7) Check the date and time are correct on your computer

8) If you have your settings to sign in automatically and recently changed your password check this out

12) Time to consider a re-install.
Save your Profile folder to hard disk, if you wish to retain your message archives.
Download 'Revo free' and uninstall in the 'Advanced'mode. This will scan your C drive and Registry for anything left behind after it runs the yahoo uninstall software. Delete everything it finds.

First uninstall Yahoo! Messenger through add/remove programs.

If you want to do a total clean uninstall of Yahoo Messenger then also navigate to Program Files on your hard drive and delete the Messenger folder inside of the Yahoo Folder. Follow this path (XP): My Computer>>C: drive>>Program Files>>Yahoo>>Messenger. Reboot your computer (important!).

If you have a trusted registry scanner use it now. If you do not have a trusted registry scanner that you are familiar with than skip this step because you can mess things up if you do not know what you are doing. Iyou can use CCleaner but you must know how to use the Registry scanner portion safely. Using any of these types of programs is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Make sure you know how to create a system restore point and backup any of the Registry files it changes.

It is important that now you reboot your computer. Now download and install Yahoo messenger again using the following link: Full Installer for Yahoo Messenger 9.0.0.2162

uninstall messenger and reinstall it....that should work

Please uninstall yahoo messenger 9 and install an older version. This happens at times too.
