Tip & How-To about Exercise & Fitness

Benefits of using an elliptical machine

1. Elliptical machines have become more and more popular in gyms around the world (as well as at private homes). You can find them next to the treadmills and bikes in almost every gym. These machines, also known as cross-trainers, have quite a few benefits. First of all, elliptical machines provide a "no-impact" workout, which takes stress of your knees, hips, and joints. When I started running on the treadmill, I quickly began to have pain in my knees. Once I moved to the elliptical machines, the pain was gone. Second, elliptical machines include upper body moving handles, so you can train your upper body as well. Moreover, whileworking out with elliptical machines you use many muscle groups such as the quads, glutes, chest, hamstring, triceps, and biceps. Last, most elliptical machines come with programmable workouts that mimic real-life activities such as hill climbing. In conclusion, elliptical machines are great for burningcalories, getting challenging workouts, and protecting your body from unnecessary stress.

I want to buy an elliptical trainer for our home gym. What features should I be looking for before purchasing one?

The following are some features you should be looking for before purchasing a machine for your home: the stride length of the pedals, smooth motion of pedals, the option of arm handles, adjustable incline and resistance. You may not want all of this in one machine; however these are some qualities you should be addressing.

I have a very wobbly elliptical machine in my home gym. Is this dangerous?

It depends on howunstable it is. If it just moves arounda bit with your movements, it's fine. Generally that is a sign of a less expensive machine. If it moves around plus you hear breaking orcracking sounds, then you have an issue.
