The 560E is a good solid, basic and somewhat limited (by today's standard) laptop. In it's time, it was one of the best available. Unfortunately, the 560E was developed a few years prior to CD readers being installed into laptops. As such, there is no accommodation for such a device. You could look into attaching an external device, but I don't remember the 560E even having a USB post.
Not the info that you were hoping for, but hope it helps. Have included a link to all kinds of 560E information, including the maintenance manual, below in the hopes that it may prove to be of some use to you.

If you have a desktop you can share the cdrom drive over the network and access the cdrom drive from the notebook of the desktop. its a lot slower but it will work.

place both computers on the same workgroup
right click on desktop cd rom drive and click share drive
then on the notebook go to strat run type //"name of desktop computer"
if you dont know the name right click on my computer and should display computer name

I have IBM think pad Notebook and I can't play CD in my CD Rom CD Rom Name is: HL-DT-ST DVD -Rom GDr808 2n I wanted just play a simple audio CD or install some Software with install CD but I could not....

If your CDROM is older than a year than you need to take it to repair person and ask for service of the device. He will carefully clean the sensitive lense and other parts of the CDROM. If the CDROM does not work even after that you need to retire it and get a new one.
The CDROM drivers are built into windows. Windows detect the device driver once you start your computer with a CDROM in a working order.

Good Luck!

My IBM Think Pad 240x hard disk damage; i brought a hard disk, please give me instruction how i install Windows2000 or Win XP, I have a USB CD rom but not supporting.

First I suggest you install Windows XP but you need the Windows installation CD and the product installation code.
Second, the USB ports and therefore the CD ROM drive will not work until Windows XP has been installed, unless the BIOS supports the USB ports and you can make the USB port/CD ROM as the first boot device.
After installing Windows you need to install the ThinkPad's device drivers.
The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista devicedrivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, theywill then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install thevarious drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

What CD roms are compatible with the thinkpad R30?

From the specs it says a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combination drive which means you should be able to play music, dadat and DVD's. You should be able to burn cds also.

If you cannot play these or burn, make sure the disk is not scratched. Try a couple of other disks to make sure the cdrom is working correctly.

IBM Thinkpad T21 doesn't boot from CD-rom

Check the following:

1 make sure that the cdrom is okay. if not sure then try cleaning the cdrom lense which can be found in the cd tray,

2 make sure that the cd disc you are trying is a bootable one

Installing new Hard Drive Problems

i suspect you need both because the cd is not a bootable one. download a win 98 boot disk from www.bootdisks.com it will allow you to boot to dos.... then you change to the cd rom drive letter.. usually D: ... tho sometimes even X: and then type setup... that should start the restore.
