My Toshiba 43h71 turns off and then back on again every 5-15 minutes. I took it to a licensed Toshiba repair shop and they replaced the convergence IC and then when that did not fix the problem gave up and gave me my money back and said they cannot fix it. I am frustrated and saw that others that own rear projection TV's have had the same issue. One Samsung owner with a similar problem said a repair guy came and flipped some sort of safety switch on his TV that stopped the problem. I am so frustrated I am looking for a soultion so my TV life can be normal again. Thanks!
I seem to have a similar problem with my Toshiba, except I will lose my picture shortly after turning it on. It does not power down, I just lose both picture and sound. The power indicator flashes. I opened it up and vacuumed out the set and it seemed to work for a brief period. I have also noticed too, that if I jar the set it will come back on...any suggestions?
It sure sounds like a solder connection opening up after the set warms up enough. If that was the problem you should be able to get it to ace up by jarring it with the palm of your hand. (Don't get carried away and hurt yourself or the set). If jarring the set gets it to cut off, I can't imagine why the repair shop couldn't find the problem. If another shop is nearby, authorized or not, you may want to give them a try. If no amount of jarring the set will get it to act up, then it could very well be not worth repair due to the amount of time that would be needed to localize the circuit that is intermittent.
